The most striking aspect of Pershore High School is the friendly and supportive atmosphere. Classification Pershore High School is an academy for boys and girls. As a good school with outstanding features we were awarded Academy status in An Ofsted inspection in 2013 confirmed this judgement. In 2017 we formed the Avonreach Academy Trust with Cherry Orchard First School, Inkberrow First School and Norton Juxta Kempsey First School. There are currently 1075 students on roll in the school There are 75 members of teaching staff. They are supported by 77 other staff. Admission Arrangements Admission into years 8 to 11 is administered on our behalf by Pupil Admissions & Transfers Section, Children s Services Directorate, County Hall, P.O. Box 73, Worcester, WR5 2YA (Tel: ). We follow the LA admissions policy as explained in their booklet which is available at: Our planned Admission Limit is currently 252 for September Applications must be made by 31st October An Open Evening is arranged for 28th September It is normal for Year 7 students at our three contributory Middle Schools at Drakes Broughton, Pinvin and Abbey Park to transfer to the High School. However, every year we also admit students from other schools into all years, whether in or outside of catchment. Parents, especially those moving into the area, are encouraged and welcomed to visit the school and discuss what we can offer with the Headteacher. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities There is a Mainstream Autism Base and the Hampton Centre provides for the special needs and disabilities of other students. The aim of the school s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policy is to enable all students to achieve their full potential, academically and socially and to have access to the National Curriculum. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children. We will provide staff and volunteers with guidance to follow when they suspect a child may be experiencing abuse or at risk of harm. We will work co-operatively with other agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first - unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child s welfare. Pastoral Care and Academic Support At Pershore High School our concern for the welfare and social and academic success of our students is paramount. To achieve this we run a vertical tutoring system in which every student belongs to one of three Houses, overseen by a Head of House and House team. Each tutor group within the House is made up of a few students from every year group. This mix of age groups allows our young people to learn from older role models, look out for each other and develop leadership skills. Tutors will know their tutees extremely well and are able to carry out targeted academic mentoring at key points in the academic year, encouraging students to reach their full potential at critical times. Siblings are in the same House and as far as possible students stay with the same tutor and House team for the whole of their time in the school, building solid, consistent relationships between school and home. Religious Education Policy The curriculum of the school makes provision for all students to attend both acts of worship and lessons in Religious Education. It is open for parents to request that their child be excused from these activities. Any such request should be in writing to the Headteacher. 4 Examination Results 2017 Please note that these statistics are calculated on 221 Year 11 students on roll in January 2017, of these: The Attainment 8 score was % achieved 4+ or more GCSE English & Maths 51% achieved grade 5+ in GCSE English & Maths 71.49% achieved 5 A*-C (including English & Maths grade 4+ or higher) 26.7% achieved a strong pass in the English Baccalaureate 27.15% achieved a standard pass in the English Baccalaureate The GCSE results demonstrate excellent progress with students on average achieving one fifth of a grade above expectation in every subject (Progress 8 Score +0.21). 6 The School Day (2018/2019) Morning Travelling To and From School Approximately 60% of our students travel to and from school on transport provided by the LA. There is secure storage for students who wish to ride a bicycle to school. The Pershore High Trust offer student support bursaries to assist students to attend visits if the need requires. Lockers Lockers are available for all students. Medical Arrangements Lessons amount to 25 hours per week, operating on a two-week timetable. There is a medical room at the school and most of our administrative staff hold appropriate First Aid qualifications.
