2 The Application Process We want you to make decisions based on knowledge and to consider the Billericay Sixth Form as one of your options post 16. Our aim is to ensure that all students are guided to the course that is right for them. To help with the decision-making, the school offers the following provisions: Getting ready to apply Step 1. The Prospectus The information in this booklet will help you to make decisions, but do not rely upon this alone. Internal applicants will receive a copy of the entry requirements page and an application form through the interview with a member of the senior staff in October/November of year 11, prior to the Sixth Form Open Evening on November 8th The full course information booklet is available on the school website. External applicants Can access the prospectus, the course information booklet and an application form from the school website. Entry requirement information and application forms will also be available at the Sixth Form Open Evening. Step 2. November 2017 The Open Evening This will take place on Wednesday, 8 th November During this evening students will be made aware of the options open to them. There will also be an opportunity to meet subject staff and to discuss specific courses with teachers and students currently studying the course. Step 3. Submitting an Application The application form can be found on the school website. Internal applicants In December you will complete an application form, stating which subjects you would like to study in the sixth form. The courses you choose are only a statement of intention and you may be guided to make different choices in your formal interview or upon final enrolment after GCSE results. External applicants may submit applications up to February of External applicant places are limited to 50 and a reserve list will operate once applications have reached this level. Places on specific courses or programmes of study are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

3 The Application Process Step 4. The Guidance and Advice Meeting Each internal applicant is invited to attend a formal guidance meeting in January with a senior member of the school staff or the personal tutor. Parents are encouraged to attend this meeting. The application is discussed, in particular, whether the course applied for is appropriate. External applicants will be offered a guidance meeting by a member of the sixth form senior staff at an External Applicant Evening. A school reference and a copy of latest predicted grades from your current school will be required at this meeting. After you have applied Step 5. April The Offer Letter In April a letter will be sent to all applicants confirming the offer of a place and the programme of study. These offers are subject to the required grades being achieved. Step 6. July September - The Induction Process An induction morning in July and the induction days in September will allow final confirmation and suitability of chosen courses. Step 7. Finalising the Timetable Offer Students are notified as quickly as possible if their chosen subjects will not be available to them and are asked to make an alternative choice from the courses on offer. Final decisions about which courses can run are made in September Step 8. Enrolment into Year 13 Students must achieve a UCAS equivalent point score of 72 points from their three course programme of study in the end of year 12 internal or external examinations. This would be the equivalent of 3 D grades in order to guarantee progress to year 13 study. Students who do not achieve the required grades may not be able to continue with their programme of study. Students who do not achieve this requirement in the January PPE exams will be required to resit these exams to achieve the required grades. Places on programmes of study cannot be guaranteed if these minimum expected grades are not achieved.

4 What are the Entry Requirements? Students gaining GCSE grades in the summer of 2018 will be awarded a mixture of legacy grades (A*-G) and, new numerical grades (9-1). In order to gain entry onto either a 3 A level, four A level or a vocational/ A level mixed programme of study you must meet the entry requirement for the sixth form and the entry requirement for specific subjects. The entry requirement is based upon gaining points from your GCSE or vocational courses. The tables below show the GCSE or vocational award grades and their equivalent points Old GCSE grade New GCSE grade Entry points 9 9 A* 8 8 A 7 7 B 6 6 C D 3 3 E 2 2 F/G 1 1 VOCATIONAL ENTRY POINTS Dist * 8 Dist 7 Merit 6 Pass 5 General Entry Requirements: The A level route : Three or four A levels and/or the EPQ. Students will need to gain an average point score of 5 from at least 5 subjects plus a minimum grade 5 in both English and Maths. Subject specific requirements must also be met and these are usually a B or grade 6 equivalent. (Students may include one vocational subject grade for an A level only programme of study ). Students who wish to follow a four A level programme of study will require an average of 6.5 from 5 subjects plus grade 6 in both English and Maths. The mixed A level / route: A double/two single award vocational course and one guided A level choice. Students will need to gain an average point score of 5 from at least 4 subjects plus a grade 5 Maths and English GCSE (or a grade 4 in either, where specifically stated in the subject specific entry requirement as sufficient) (Students may include two vocational subject grades for a mixed programme of study ). 5 Which course will be best for me? Specific subject entry requirements Students will also be required to meet the subject specific entry grades required by individual subjects. These are shown in the table below. Art Biology Business Studies Business GCSE 5 grade in Art or a relevant subject. GCSE grade 6 in Biology or 6-7 in GCSE Combined Science. GCSE grade B in Business or grade 4/ 5 from English and Maths. GCSE Grade 4 in Maths and English Chemistry Chinese GCSE grade 6 in Chemistry or grade 6-7 in GCSE Combined Science. Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics. GCSE grade B in Chinese. Computer Science GCSE grade 6 in Maths or a grade 6 in Computer Science. Drama GCSE grade 5 in Drama or a grade 6 equivalent in a relevant subject. Economics GCSE grade 5 in English or English Literature and Maths or one of these and a grade 6/B in another relevant subject (Business Studies, History, Geography or a Science.) OCR National Engineering GCSE grade 5 in Maths and grade 4 in English, grade 5 in the Physics element of the Additional Science or Physics GCSE. English (Lit or Combined) GCSE grade 6 in both Language and Literature or a grade 6/B in another relevant subject and a grade 6 in one of these. French and German GCSE grade 6 in the relevant language.

GCSE grade 5 in History or Grade 5 in English language or Literature if you have not studied History before. GCSE grade 6 in ICT or Computer Science GCSE or grade 6 in Additional Science or Maths GCSE grade 5. Grade 4 in English Mathematics GCSE grade 7 in Maths. Grade 8 for Further Maths. Film Studies Music /Music Tech GCSE grade C in Media Studies or grade 5 in English Language or Literature. GCSE grade 5 in Music and a relevant music theory and performance grade. Physics Politics Product Design Psychology Sociology Sport Textiles GCSE grade 6 in Physics or grade 6-7 in GCSE Combined Science. Grade 6 in Mathematics. GCSE grade 5 in English Language or Literature. GCSE grade 5 or equivalent in Product Design, Art or Engineering or a grade 5 in Maths. GCSE grade 5 in Mathematics, grade 5 in Additional Science. GCSE grade 5 in English Language and/or Literature. GCSE grade 5 in English Language or Literature. GCSE grade 5 in PE with at least 60% (6) achieved in the theory paper. Grade 4 in English and Maths Grade 5 or C in Textiles or Art GCSE.

7 What are the likely subject combinations I can choose? Most students will choose three A level subjects which they will study for two years. Some students will choose one double or two single award vocational courses and either an A level or a single award vocational course. Below are the likely Option Blocks for courses beginning in September Courses will be confirmed once all applications are processed and option group numbers are known.
