4 Addition adding more than 2 numbers We can add more than 2 numbers at a time and we can add them in any order. Look at =? We know that 3 and 7 makes 10, so we can add them together first. 5 Addition counting on Counting on is a good strategy to choose when adding 1, 2, or = 19 We start at 17 and count on 2 more Use the number track to help you count on. 6 Addition counting on If we can count on by 1, 2, or 3, then we can count on by 10, 20 and 30. Look at =? We start at 17 and jump down the grid by 10s. 20 is 2 so we make 2 jumps = Practice counting by 10s by reading down the columns on the grid out loud. Now try doing it without looking at the grid. 13 Written methods addition to 99 with regrouping Here is a place value board that shows how regrouping works. If we have 10, we should regroup into a ten. = On the first place value board we can see that there are 3 and 11. We regroup 10 into 1 ten and we get 4 and 1 one. 10 = 1 ten 1 For each set of place value boards, regroup the into a ten and show the regrouped amount on the next board.
