2 Our Premises Our premises are furnished to a high quality standard. The premises consist of 3 dance studios and a changing area for students and waiting area for parents with tea / coffee facilities. The 3 dance studios are all equipped with Harlequin flooring - flooring that is used by all major dance companies, and sprung flooring for the safety of the dancer. Our premises are set in a rural location, yet only 1.5 miles from Chelmsford on the A1060. There is a car park on site, which must be used at all times. We are a short walk from the car park but well signposted All the teachers at Dance Projection love their jobs and do our best to get the most out of the students. We only employ fully qualified teachers so that we offer quality teaching to students of varying ages and ability in a friendly safe environment. We have 7 teachers who specialise in different genres so we can get the best out of our students. It is our sincere hope that all students who enter our studios will be musically, physically and creatively inspired to carry a love of dance with them always. 3 FAQ s DO WE STAY AND WATCH CLASSES? Only with the very youngest children whilst they settle in. For some this is ten minutes, others may take a couple of weeks. Parents are then invited to watch at the end of each school term, but not the summer term as this is show term. CAN WE PAY WEEKLY? No, fees are paid in blocks of six. However all new pupils can pay weekly for the first week to try out the class first. The remainder of the block is then due on the second lesson. WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR TO THEIR FIRST LESSON? For young children attending ballet, a skirt and t-shirt or a dress and bare feet. For older children and for modern and tap a tight fitting t-shirt and leggings/tracksuit bottoms. Clothing should be comfortable but not too loose fitting or too long. For tap classes a pair of hard low heeled shoes/boots. Preferably not trainers or sandals. Our uniform is compulsory by the 3rd lesson. DO YOU OFFER EXAMS TO YOUR STUDENTS? Yes, we teach the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance syllabus or ISTD for short. The first exams are Pre-primary minimum aged of five or Primary minimum age six. Children who are doing Ballet, Modern, Tap and Commercial Street may be asked if they wish to do an exam. The examining body is the ISTD. You can find out more about the ISTD on their website your child would like to do Ballet exams then we recommend 2 classes per week if they wish to take an exam every year. Modern and tap is normally once a week and they normally reach the level if there attendance is good. Exams are taken in December and in May/June half term each year. Exams are not compulsory however it is a nice way to finish off the level to move onto the next. HOW OFTEN WILL MY CHILD TAKE AN EXAM? Usually every twelve to eighteen months depending on attendance, practise and commitment. DOES THE SCHOOL DO SHOWS? Yes, usually at the end of the summer term. DO ALL THE CLASSES TAKE PART IN THE SHOWS? All classes take part in the show apart from gymnastic classes and stretch/body conditioning, all children must to over 3 years of age. ARE ALL YOUR TEACHERS QUALIFIED? Yes, all of our teachers are qualified to teach dance and have gone through rigorous training. Due to new government requirements many of our teachers are also in the process of undergoing further training and all attend regular refresher courses to keep up to date with developments. Everyone is first aid trained aswell. ARE ALL TEACHERS INSURED AND DBS CHECKED? All our teachers are insured. It is not a legal requirement for dance teachers in the private sector to be DBS checked. However all our teachers are DBS checked purely as a gesture to parents/guardians that we take child safety and protection seriously. DBS numbers are on notice board in waiting room.

6 Dance Festivals Dance Projection is involved with the British Federation of Festivals of Dance & All England Festivals. Children with a desire to compete are encouraged to take part in this forum as part of their training. It is noticed that the children gain even more confidence and enjoy the challenge of testing their current skills with children at the same level. Each child that wishes to compete will have their own dance(s). This is made up by one of the teachers and you will have to book a private slot for this to be done. Dance Projection then enters each student(s) in competitions across Essex/Kent/Suffolk.
