LAMBERT SCHOOL PRINCIPAL S MONTHLY REPORT June, 2016 Attendance As of June 24, we have 138 students enrolled as follows: Kindergarten = 16; Grade 1 = 8; Grade 2 = 10; Grade 3 = 14; Grade 4 = 11; Grade 5 = 7; Grade 6 = 12; Grade 7 = 12; Grade 8 = 10; Grade 9 = 8; Grade 10 (Level 1) = 10; Grade 11 (Level 2) = 13; Grade 12(Level 3) = 7. Total Male = 69 Total Female = 69 Total = 138 This represents no change since the end of last month. The student attendance rate for this month was 91.4%. Year to date: Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. Mrs. Rosemary O Neill, our guidance counsellor spent 1 year with us and did some great work. Mrs. Breanne Card has spent the past 2 years with us in two different roles, and is now moving on to a new opportunity in New Brunswick. Mr. Andrew Card was our Art teacher for the past 2 years. He

2 2 also taught other subjects in Grade 5 and most recently junior high science and high school biology. Mr. Card is moving on with Mrs. Card to New Brunswick. Ms. Jessica Kieley has been our Primary/Elementary French teacher for the past 3 years but is now moving with her partner back to St. John s. Mr. Ron Blair has been a member of our staff since For the past 6 years he has been our vice principal with teaching duties in the high school social studies area. Mr. Blair is retiring after 31 years in the teaching profession to his new home in Truro, NS. Mrs. Kimberley Waterman will be taking a maternity leave next school year. We thank each of them for their dedication to our school and wish them all the best in their retirements and future endeavors. During Environment week, our Kindergartens and Grade 12s took part in a tree planting activity near the TLH. This occurred on June 10 th in the afternoon. Our Kinderstart program concluded with session #8 for this school year. That occurred on June 8 th. Congratulations to our Kindergarten students on their graduation. A special thank you to Miss Raylene Cheeseman and the Kindergarten parents for their hard work in putting off a very memorable and successful event. The Canadian Cancer Society was here on June 20 th to do a Sun Sense presentation with our K-6 students in the theatre. The Grade 3s and their teacher, Mrs. Michelle Power, held the Little Green Thumbs presentation and celebration during the afternoon of June 20 th. The grade 3s told us all about their growing project this year and shared some of the products from their garden with their parents. As in previous years school administration, along with our Guidance Counsellor and the Grade 6 teacher, held an information session for our Grade 6 students and parents on June 7 th. Information on the junior and senior high school program at our school was presented and discussed. Our Grades 3, 6, and 9 classes were involved in Mathematics Provincial Assessments this year. Results of these will be know in early fall and shared with students, parents and teachers. Our Grade 11 and 12 students were also involved in several public examinations during the month. Results of these should be known by the end of July. Mr. Holmes held an elementary/junior high sports day and Ms. Campbell held a primary sports day during the month. Both events were held during a full afternoon session with the students and awards were given for participation and to those who won events. The Turning Points program is character awareness and literacy program that provides opportunities for students to read, write and think about their fundamental values. A process of self-reflection and discussions with teachers and peers leads to writing a narrative essay about a significant event - a turning point - in which students organize and express their thoughts about the principles that guide their lives. This program was implemented in our Grade 7 English Language Arts class throughout the year. Two essays from Eric G. Lambert School were chosen to be submitted to the contest this year. As the winner of an Honourable Mention in this year's Turning Points program, Andrea Lane will have her essay published in the annual Turning Points Anthology of Winning Essays. A celebration of the Labrador winners and honorable mentions was held on June 13 th. Andrea s parents, friends, teacher and school administration were in attendance in Ms. Campbell s class where through the use of technology we got to hear all winning entries from Labrador. Our year end assemblies were held on June 23 rd and 24 th. For a complete listing of all awards given out at our closing assemblies, see the file attached to the end of this report.
