3 Identifying Fractions Practice A fraction is a number that names part of a whole thing. The number at the top is the numerator. It tells how many parts of the whole are present. The number at the bottom is the denominator. It tells how many parts there are in all. Examples 2 (There are two parts in the circle. One part is gray. Therefore, the fraction is 2.) 4 (There are four parts in the square. Three parts are gray. The fraction is 4.)
