Prep Information Evening We will be holding an Information evening for parents of students beginning Prep in on Thursday October 20th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Thanks to Paul and Sherrie Geister for organising all the sausage sizzle orders and cooking our BBQ and to Leanne Burford for sourcing our bread.

This includes 56 new Prep enrolments. Next year we will have the following classes; 3 x Prep 2 x Grade 1 3 x Grade 2 2 x Grade 3 2 x Grade 4 2 x Grade 5 2 x Grade 6 We will be receiving a new building ready for. It will be placed facing Rooms 10 and 11 and beside Mr Smith s room. It is due for arrival during the Christmas holiday break and will be ready for classes to use at the beginning of. Prep Information Evening We will be holding an Information evening for parents of students beginning Prep in on Thursday October 20th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. We look forward to all parents attending this interactive and informative session. Footy Colours It was fantastic to see so many people dressed in their footy colours. Thanks to Paul and Sherrie Geister for organising all the sausage sizzle orders and cooking our BBQ and to Leanne Burford for sourcing our bread. The kids loved the sausages and had a great day with footy activities, clinics and games which were organised by the Grade 6 students. After recess the annual Boys vs Staff and Girls football match took place. It was a tight match with the teacher s and girls eventually winning. Thanks to Jason Bruhn for umpiring the match. Take a look at the photos further in the newsletter. All Schools Swim Meet Congratulations to the following students who competed in the All Schools Swim Meet last Thursday; Sosaia Ale (4R), James Bell (4R), Max Bell (2J), Paddy Connelly (Prep C), Tom Connelly (2R), Rose Livingston (3C),Eadie Neagle (1T), Lily Neagle (5/6G), Meg Neagle (4R) and Mackenzie Phelan (4R). Some of our students performed very well and placed in their events. Sosaia Ale: 1st Backstroke, 2nd Freestyle James Bell: 1st Freestyle Max Bell: 2nd Freestyle, 2nd Backstroke Rose Livingston: 3rd Breaststroke Lily Neagle: 1st Freestyle Due to all their fantastic swimming the ISPS Boys team came 2nd, the ISPS Girls team came 3rd and the combined team came 3rd overall. Somers Camp Our students had a blast at Somers! Ten days is a long time to be away but the students coped admirably and have lots of stories to tell.

Curriculum Our last Curriculum day for the year will be on Thursday 8th December (Please note change of date) Students will not be required to attend school on this day.

These need to be returned to the Art Room by Monday 3rd October (the beginning of Term 4) Wanted We are loving creating art work for our gardens.

This will be reported in the next newsletter. 5/6 Sports Yesterday the Grade 5 and 6 students took part in the Irymple district competition at Nichols Point Primary School. They played Basketball, Volleyball and Softball. Somers Camp Our students had a blast at Somers! Ten days is a long time to be away but the students coped admirably and have lots of stories to tell. RI There will be NO Religious Instruction class on the first Monday of Term. Mildura Show Colouring In Students in all grades were given the opportunity to take a colouring in sheet for the Mildura Show. These need to be returned to the Art Room by Monday 3rd October (the beginning of Term 4) Wanted We are loving creating art work for our gardens. Next term the Prep students will be involved in creating some pieces of art using bottle caps (plastic and metal). We would love it if you could start collecting these and sending them to the Art Room. If anyone has an old tricycle that they no longer require we would love to have one for our garden area. 15th Street Beautification On Tuesday the Environmental Leaders from Grades 3 to 6 battled the weather to clean up the 15th street roadside ready for replanting. Thanks to Mel Bell for her assistance. Holidays We hope that you all have safe, restful and fun holidays. Term 4 is 11 weeks long and is always a busy term with camps and excursions, reporting and transition for Grade 6 and new Preps. When parents solve all children s problems we not only increase their dependency on adults but we teach them to be afraid of making mistakes.

Of course, if you keeping solving them, they ll keep bringing them. Mum, my sister is annoying me? Dad, can you ask my teacher to pick me for the team? Hey, I can t find my socks!

Alternatively, you can take a problem-solving approach, cueing them to resolve their own problems and take responsibility for their concerns. What can you do to make her stop annoying you?

That s fertile ground for anxiousness and perfectionism, which often go hand in hand. Kids get used to bringing their problems to parents to solve. Of course, if you keeping solving them, they ll keep bringing them. Mum, my sister is annoying me? Dad, can you ask my teacher to pick me for the team? Hey, I can t find my socks! It s tempting if you are in a time-poor family to simply jump in and help kids out. Alternatively, you can take a problem-solving approach, cueing them to resolve their own problems and take responsibility for their concerns. What can you do to make her stop annoying you? What s the best approach to take with your teacher? Socks, smocks! Where might they be? Here are 5 questions you can ask kids to encourage them to resolve their own problems: 1. Can you solve this yourself? Get kids thinking they can do it. 2. What do you think needs to happen? Start kids thinking about solving problems. 3. What s the first step? Sometimes just getting kids started is enough to get them working out issues themselves. 4. How would you like me to help? Get kids considering the type of assistance they need. 5. What s the best way to do this? Get kids assessing and prioritising. Problem-solving is one of the four major skills (optimism, social skills & independence being the others) that resilient kids share, yet it s the one that many of us aren t equipped to develop.
