3 Ski Club Wrap Up Students had a great time on the two trips we took up to Blue Mountain this year! Students spent the night tubing, skiing and snowboarding. We took an average of 100 students on each trip. A special thank you to the teachers who volunteered to help chaperone: Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. Cairone-King, Mr. DeJong, Ms. Gilfoil & Mrs. Petruzzi. Any student who was unable to attend one of the trips or is awaiting a refund due to the cancelled trip should be receiving a check from the district by the end of the month. Ms. Locke & Mr. Thorpe
4 Above: The Science Olympiad Team took first place out of 31 schools at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Competition Monday, March 4, at Cabrini College. Students earned medals in 21 out of 23 events. Good luck at States! Congratulations to Eli Manaker! We have just been notified that Eli Manaker has qualified to represent SHMS at the state level of the National Geography Bee on April 5th in Gettysburg. This is the 4th year in a row that SHMS has had representation at the state level bee!
5 This past weekend Strath Haven Middle School's spring musical production of BACK TO THE 80'S played to sold out audiences. Set in the stereotypical high school of the 1980's, the play weaved the top pop songs of the decade around a story of high school students in their senior year. More than 130 students were involved in the production as actors, tech, and stage crew. The production was directed by middle school teacher Tom Barbella along with Middle School teachers Aubree Windish (music director), Abby Polgardy (choreographer),james McLaughlin (Pit Crew) and SHHS teacher, valerie Szeliga (choreographer).
6 Parents of 6th graders, this announcement s for you! If you can volunteer some time, the 6th Grade International Week (March 19 22nd) is in urgent need of the following help: 1. Setting up a continental breakfast (food donated separately) for the presenters each morning by 7:15. If you are already dropping off a kid early for a music program, this opportunity is for you! 2. Assisting our Ancient Cuneiform presenters with set-up and clean-up of clay-based projects. Messy, but a very valuable experience for the kids. Wed and Fri 8 11 am. Need just one person. 3. (Thursday, 3/14) Cutting large sheets of paper for sarcophagus covers am. Several people needed. Please contact Meredith Flower at meredithflower@verizon.net or to volunteer. If you want to ask details before signing up, don t hesitate to contact her. The Strath Haven Middle School Community was able to raise $2,450 during its Student/Faculty Basketball Game benefitting Sandy Hook Elementary School. Under the leadership of Dan Shaffer, parents, students and staff all came together to make this a wonderful night! From the jazz band, under the direction of Mr. James McLaughlin, to the bake sale, organized by parent Heidi Foggo, a good time was had by all! The teachers won for the twenty fifth year in a row! Computer Fair Meeting There will be a Computer Fair follow up meeting on Tuesday, 3/12, after school in room C321.
