23 Primary School Leaving Examination The PSLE serves as a placement examination. All P6 pupils will take the PSLE which assesses their suitability for Secondary Education and places them in an appropriate Sec. School course: the Special / Express the Normal Course (Academic / Technical)

25 Placement Placement into courses and posting to Sec. Schools of choice is based on the aggregate score for the subjects taken in the PSLE The reporting of the results to pupils are made in terms of grades for each subject & their aggregate score. Their eligibility for the various courses will be given in the result slip.

43 Direct School Admission (DSA) to Secondary One
44 What is DSA? As part of MOE's move towards a more flexible and broad-based education system.
45 What is DSA? The DSA-Sec Exercise is not a centralised posting exercise conducted by MOE.
46 Why DSA? To promote holistic education by giving participating secondary schools greater flexibility in selecting students while holding to the key principles of transparency and meritocracy.
47 Secondary Schools offering DSA Schools offering an integrated programme (IP Schools) Independent schools (IS) Autonomous schools (AS) Schools with niche programmes approved by MOE (Niche Schools)
48 Direct School Admission (DSA) Under DSA, schools may admit students using criteria other than PSLE results. This allows for a more diverse range of student achievements and talents to be recognised. 49 Pre-Selection Stage (Before Jun) All schools participating in the DSA- Sec Exercise will publish their admission criteria on their respective websites in May.
50 Selection Stage (Jun Aug) Applicants who wish to apply to a participating school should approach the school directly or refer to the school s website for additional information Participating secondary schools conduct their own selection exercises anytime from June to August Participating secondary schools then identify, select and categorise applicants who have submitted DSA Application Forms to their schools
51 Selection Stage (Jun Aug) By end Aug, all participating secondary schools will issue letters to applicants if they have been given a Confirmed Offer, put on the Waiting List or if the school is unable to offer them a place (i.e. Rejected List) Applicants who are given Confirmed Offer(s) and/or placed on Waiting List will be given School Preference Forms in Oct and will have to indicate their school preference(s) in Oct All students with at least 1 Confirmed Offer or who have been placed on the Waiting List of at least 1 school will receive a School Preference Form.
52 Exercise School Preference Stage (Oct) Prior to the commencement of the Exercise School Preference Stage, Pupil Placement Section (PPS) will send a School Preference Form to all DSA applicants through their primary schools Applicants who have been identified under the Confirmed Offer and the Waiting List of a school will be asked to indicate their preference for up to a maximum of 3 schools
53 Exercise School Preference Stage (Oct) DSA applicants who decide not to seek S1 admission to a secondary school via the DSA- Sec Exercise may withdraw from the exercise Applicants will then participate in the S1 Posting Exercise upon the release of PSLE results Withdrawal from the DSA-Sec Exercise is NOT allowed after the closure of the ESP Stage
54 Results Release Stage (Late Nov) Results of the DSA-Sec Exercise will be communicated to the students on the same day as the release of the PSLE results.
55 Results Release Stage (Late Nov) Successful DSA-Sec applicants will receive a notification indicating the DSA secondary school that they are allocated to through their primary schools Successful applicants will NOT be allowed to participate and make any school selection in the S1 Posting Exercise
56 Results Release Stage (Late Nov) Successful DSA-Sec applicants who are eligible for special programmes at the secondary schools may opt for these eligibilities during the S1 Posting Exercise Applicants who are awarded Edusave Entrance Scholarship for Independent Schools will also be informed Successful DSA students with no further eligibility will receive a DSA Letter indicating the DSA school they are allocated to
57 Results Release Stage (Late Nov) Unsuccessful DSA-Sec applicants will receive a S1 Option Form to participate in the S1 Posting Exercise Unsuccessful DSA-Sec applicants may continue to opt for the DSA secondary schools that they had applied to via the DSA- Sec Exercise at the S1 Posting Exercise

78 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP School Policies Homework: (9 to 12 hrs/wk for Std; 5hrs/wk for Fdn) Attendance: Students are expected to produce an MC or a parent s letter if they are absent from school. Parents are encouraged to call the school to inform the Form Teacher of your child s absence, especially so if child has contacted infectious diseases such as HFMD, chicken pox. Late Coming: All students must be in school by 7.30 am for the morning assembly.
79 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS Examinations Policy In alignment to national examinations practices, there will be no re-sit for P2 to 6 students who are absent for Listening Comprehension and written papers in CA / SA / Prelim. For students who are absent from the oral component, teachers will make arrangements to test the students individually. The last day of the oral examination is the final day of the last written papers.
80 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS Examinations Policy Any absence from examinations must be covered by a medical certificate from a private or government clinic. Students are required to submit their medical certificate(s) to their form teachers on the day they return to school. Students who are absent without a medical certificate/ valid reason will not be awarded any marks. [MC from TCM clinics is not accepted.]
81 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS Examinations Policy Students who are late for 30 minutes or less are allowed to sit for the full duration of the paper. Students who are late for more than 30 minutes will not be given extra time and they will sit for the remaining duration of the paper.
82 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP KCS Examinations Policy Students can request to sit for the papers for independent practice when they are well and back in school. However, the marks will not be recorded in the report cards or used for placement purposes.
83 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP Discipline Discipline is an important aspect in the holistic development of every student. Good discipline is needed to create a conducive environment for work and play in Kheng Cheng School.
84 HOME-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP Discipline All students and parents are to read and adhere to the school rules, as stated in the Student Handbook Acknowledgement on page 10 and after page 16 of the Student Handbook 2016.
