7 All GCSEs are: Curriculum Linear courses with examinations at the end of the course Less controlled assessment content and emphasis than previous GCSEs GCSE demands increased from previous years; there is a deliberate strategy to make GCSEs more challenging

18 The Changing Jobs Market Work is going to become even more bitty and insecure. The concept of a job for life has seemed outmoded for a while now. In the future, it seems doubtful whether jobs as we know them will exist at all. Many, of course, will be done away with by the much-prophesied automated takeover of everything from truck driving to brain surgery. But that is only half the story. Something more basic is under threat: the entire edifice of office-based, nine-to-five employment that has defined our working lives for at least a century. 25 Year 9 Option Choices Think about: Subjects related to possible jobs. This could relate to the content or skills you will develop Subjects that you enjoy and find interesting Subjects where the learning style and method of assessment match your strengths Subjects in which you are likely to get the highest grades A balanced range of courses e.g. a practical subject to balance a lot of academic subjects.

29 KEY DATES Tuesday, 7th November 2017: 6.30pm, KS4 options and careers parents information meeting (students need not attend) Monday, 27th November 2017: Year 9 assembly to explain option procedures and distribute named options booklets to pupils November 2017: Year 9 assembly by Heads of Department to explain difference courses within subject areas Thursday, 30th November 2017: 5 8pm, Year 9 Parents Evening Subject teachers should give an outline of the KS4 courses available during lessons in the weeks leading up to Monday, 12th December. Week beginning 11th December 2017: Individual Year 9 options interviews with senior members of staff (by appointment) January 2017 onwards Any pupils who have not been allocated their first choice options May 2017 Option allocations finalised and pupils informed
