1 Greek 201 Fall 2008 Professor I. E. Holmberg Mon.-Thurs. 2:30-3:20 Clearihue C111 Office Hours: Tues a.m p.m. and Wed p.m.; or by appointment Clearihue B422, X8528 This course is a continuation of the Greek grammar and translation exercises presented in the Athenaze textbooks. Attendance. Attendance and participation in class are essential for your understanding, competence, and successful progression in Greek. I will take attendance daily. I will allow 5 unexcused absences; after that, your unexcused absences will begin to affect your grade. Class Work. The class work will still focus on grammatical exercises combined with translating passages from the text while we work in Athenaze. Once per week Andrew McClellan, a graduate student in our Department, will teach the class. Grading. Your grade will be based upon attendance and participation, a series of hand-in exercises, and four tests in class. The four in-class tests will cover the examination requirements for the course; we will not have a final during the regular exam period. All course requirements must be completed to receive a passing grade. Final grades will be posted by student number unless I am otherwise notified in writing. I will not accommodate travel or personal plans which conflict with the four tests. Grading: Class attendance and participation 20% 10 Hand-Ins 20% 4 Tests 60% The grades on your hand-ins and tests will be a letter grade based upon the percentage below. Your final grade will be a letter grade based on the average of attendance, hand-ins and tests in conformity with the percentage table above and the University grading policy on p. 37 of the Calendar.
