Our school has many wonderful attributes, the strongest of these are our pupils and our parents. You are very positive about the school and very approachable, so therefore I was rather disappointed to only have five parents attend the Friends meeting last Tuesday. I did have apologies from three parents and I am grateful that five staff members also attended the meeting. There seems to be some misconceptions I wish to address: On accepting your child s place to our school, you become a Friend of Westminster Cathedral Primary School. The Friends meetings are open to all parents and carers. The Friends meetings are a wonderful opportunity to talk about the school community and using your parental voice to improve opportunities for all our pupils. It is widely recognised that parental involvement has a large and positive impact on children s learning. I am really pleased to see the number of parents who have already signed up for their parents evening appointments, however this involvement also includes attending meetings and school community events. On Tuesday we talked about rebranding the name of the Friends Association. We decided on WCPS Friends The vision of WCPS Friends. For our school to come together as one community through events and fundraising opportunities. Plan for the year ahead. 2 WCPS Friends monthly meetings. We are aware parents are busy and it is difficult to find a time that suits all, therefore we would like to have monthly meetings at varying times to accommodate parents schedule. The next WCPS Friends meeting Friday 18th November at 9am ALL WELCOME Thank you for your support, God s Blessing Mrs A Stacey (Acting Headteacher) International Day and Celebration. Congratulations also to, Alexandra Taylor and Harry Hurley Friday s Celebration Assembly Friday 14th October will be at 9.15pm. All welcome. Friday 14th October No Coding Club No Drama Club No Homework Club No Netball Club. Friday 14th October. The children are all very excited about our International Celebration tomorrow. The children can come to school wearing national clothing. Please provide food for the International Celebration. If you are able to help, please come to school from 2.30pm to set up the hall. There is no assembly at 2.45pm School finishes as normal at 3.20pm. The pupils will be dismissed as normal by the teachers then the parents, carers and children can come into the hall through the front door entrance. Pick up a plate and taste the delights on offer. The pupils are to stay in the hall with their parents/ carers.

4 Science Space Activities Last week in assembly we shared the fascinating Science Space work the children had done that week this ranged from writing poetry in Year 5 to making sun spot biscuits in Year 1. It was wonderful seeing and hearing all the children had learnt and the enthusiasm they had for the exciting activities they did. Thank you to Miss Sweilam for inspiring us and sharing fantastic resources to get us all thinking about Space in many different ways. Year 6 used Oreo biscuits to learn about the phases of the moon. Year 5 worked as teams to create space poems. Year 4 taught us about the centre of the earth and created fascinating models to show us. Year 3 learnt about the Northern Lights and used chalk to create their own pictures, Year 2 made pin wheel galaxy and wrote expanded noun phrases Space poems. Year 1 made sun spot biscuits and could explain what sun spots are. Year R made their own shooting stars. Well done children for sharing your amazing learning it was out of this world!

5 Drumming and Dance workshops Today all the pupils have had drumming and dance workshops provided by Maximum Dance Design. Pupil Voice Mindfulness workshop _ Years 5 and 6. On Monday Year 6 and then Year 5 had a Mindfulness workshop. Through exercises they learnt not to judge others based on their race or belief. The children were given cards telling them of a persons race, faith, nationality and immigration status. They talked about these people, they discussed their views and opinions about the people based on what they read. They then put names to the description. The majority of the children admitted that they changed their attitude once they heard the name of the famous person that was being described. I learnt you should never judge a person on their appearance. I learnt about the word stereotype and what it means. I learnt about a disabled man who climbed Mount Everest which has taught me disabled people can do anything. What I liked about the dinner party activity because it made me think about other people s race and religion. I learnt that you shouldn t judge anyone on appearance only.
