4 ARMIDALE SHOW A group of keen Agriculture students recently participated in the Armidale Show where they competed in a vast array of junior judging competitions which included stock horse, meat and Merino sheep, fleeces and cattle, as well as cattle parading. There were some outstanding achievements from students across the events which included Michael Looker and Harris Dullaway gaining first and second respectively in the fleece judging, Tom Lockyer placing second in the merino sheep judging, Andrew Pearson 5th in horse judging, Caleb Campbell- Spencer 5th in cattle judging with Michael Looker and Jamie Loeb also making the final, and Ashley Donnelly and Colleen Pearson making the finals for cattle parading. On the Saturday in the stud cattle section, we prepared and presented our Murray Grey animals. There were some very pleasing results with Nan and Bonny winning their respective age classes in a combined breed s competition which saw a range of animals from Murray Grey, Speckle Park, Devon and Red Poll studs. Betty also placed 3rd. Bonny then went on to be awarded senior champion female. Guyra Central was then crowned overall champion exhibit due to the excellent presentation of the cattle and stall area, combined with the outstanding results achieved by both the students and cattle. A huge congratulations to all those people involved and special thank you to Jo Dullaway and to Gwyn and Ian Pearson for assistance over the two days and for help with transporting cattle. SCIENCE & ENGINEERING CHALLENGE On Wednesday 7th March, students from years 7-10 attended the University of New Castles Science and Engineering Challenge hosted by the University of New England. Eight schools across the region attended the event where students are put into groups of four, each group attempting a series of different challenges testing their skills in maths, science and logic. Activities required teamwork, communication, critical thinking and creativity, each activity was scored with Guyra Central School placing 6th at the end of the STEM event. Everyone had a great day and we would like to thank Miss Stephanie Looker for assisting us on the day. SECONDARY WINTER TRIALS/TOUCH FOOTBALL TRIALS Secondary students travelled to Inverell on Friday 9th March to participate in the Winter Trials in both rugby league and soccer for the opportunity to join the zone team which will compete in Coonabarabran for a position on the North West team for their respective sports. Ashleigh Richardson and Gemma Sisson were both successful in securing a position in the open girls soccer, BJ Cameron secured a position in the open boys soccer and Alistair Connors and Harry Lockyer were successful in securing a position in the under 15's rugby league side. Congratulations to all the students who travelled over to Inverell for the trials and we wish the students going on to Coonabarabran success in the Northwest trials.

5 NORTH WEST PRIMARY SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS Hannah Evers, Eli McGinty, Stevie McElroy, Cooper Wilson and Oscar Atkin were successful in gaining a position to compete in the North West Swimming Championships held in Armidale on Monday 5th of March Competition was tough with students competing against the best swimmers in the North West to secure a position on the Northwest team who will go on to compete in the State carnival later this year. Each student finished with pleasing results achieving personal best times for the event/events they were competing in. 8 Worlds & Nationals Trap Carnival Titles 2018 Fletcher Richardson will be travelling to Wagga Wagga to compete in the "2018 Worlds and National Trap Carnival Titles" from the 15th of March, this competition will see competitors travelling from around the world to compete in 10 day event. Fletcher will be representing the Guyra Gun Club as a "sub junior" and an "A" grade adult, 19 metre shooter. The carnival consists of 4 disciplines, with Fletcher commencing competition on the 17th March in a two man team event called "Deauville Doubles" where he will be shooting with his Father Jeffrey shooting off 24 metres. There will be 1000 targets to be shot over the 10 days and Fletcher is hoping to beat his personal best break of 70 targets straight by aiming for his ultimate goal of 100 plus targets. We wish Fletcher all the best for this upcoming carnival.

9 Six Guyra Central School students were selected to form sides for Armidale Touch Football Association and Inverell Junior Touch Football Association to take part in the 3 day NSW Junior State Cup held in Port Macquarie from the 15th to the 17th February Stephanie Cameron and Olivia Little joining the Inverell Junior Touch under 16 s girls side, Shanae Bull joining the Armidale Touch Football Association under 12 s girls side and Brodi Campbell, Oscar Atkin and Archie Dowden joining the Armidale Touch Football Association under 12 s boys side. With over 18,000 participants including players, coaches, referees, selectors and endless supporting family members, 358 teams descended on Port Macquarie to play 1312 games over 3 days to determine the title of State Champions for boys and girls divisions ranging from Under 10 s to Under 18 s. Although each of the teams were not successful in making the finals on the last day of the carnival, it was an amazing experience for all 6 participants who took part in the 3 day event.
