2 DEPUTY HEADTEACHER DUTIES: 1. To deputise for the Head teacher in all aspects of the management, control and discipline of the school and to take full responsibility for the school in the absence of the Head teacher. 2. To liaise closely with the Head teacher to formulate and develop school policy and to ensure that staff have a full understanding of the policies and philosophy of the school. To work with the Headteacher in implementing the school philosophy and policies. 3. To act as Team Leader and Line Manager for designated Key Stage. 4. To share responsibility with the Head teacher for pastoral care of all the staff, teaching and non-teaching, especially in designated Key Stage. 5. To work with the Headteacher in evaluating, monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of the school. 6. To keep abreast of new developments in the school across the curriculum and disseminating information to colleagues. 7. To work where needed with the subject consultants in the execution of their role. 8. To act, when necessary, in an advisory capacity to the Headteacher and other members of staff. To demonstrate, by personal example, the standards and levels of achievement appropriate to the school and to co-ordinate the work of classes. 9. To establish and foster good relationships with both staff and children and to be an effective channel of communication between all who work in and are connected with the school. 10. To lead staff meetings where necessary and to collate ideas for future planning. 11. To lead assemblies and take stories as and when required and if the Headteacher is unavailable. 12. To be the induction tutor for newly qualified staff. 13. Alongside the Headteacher, to formulate, monitor and review the School Integrated Development Plan throughout the school year. Alongside the Headteacher to evaluate the School Integrated Development Plan at the end of the school year and devise a plan for the subsequent year. 14. To be a team leader for appraisal systems within the school.

3 15. To liaise with parents, other schools and outside agencies as appropriate. 16. To act as Well Being Lead within the school. 17. To lead school in gaining recognition awards or kitemarks that reflect and further develop good practice in school. 18. To be responsible for all student college placements within school and to oversee the welfare of students within the school. 19. To be responsible for all Continuing Professional Development of staff. To monitor the individual needs of the staff and identify ways to meet their needs and that of the school. 20. Alongside the Headteacher to organise and monitor the school s training budget, arranging CPD taking account of the School Integrated Development Plan. 21. To be the Staff Representative at Fundraising Meetings

4 Additional Teaching and Learning Responsibility As Deputy Headteacher undertake the equivalent of a Teaching and Learning Responsibility for Assessment and will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of: School improvement and effectiveness strategies including the process of school selfevaluation. Processes and systems for quality assurance within assessment systems within the school. Principles and practices in relation to managing learning and teaching, people, policy and planning, resources and finance. Principles and practices of effective leadership and management of change. The application of information technology to learning, teaching and management of assessment. Principles of curriculum planning and the link with assessment particularly formative assessment and gap analysis. Financial planning, stock inventory and resource planning. Impact on educational progress beyond your own assigned pupils: Monitor and evaluate standards and progress through scrutiny of assessment practice. Use the results of monitoring to highlight any possible pupil underachievement. Analyse pupil progress and achievements statistics throughout the school and devise strategies for improvement. Offer support to staff in the implementation of assessment and target setting. Keep up to date on current research and thinking and bring relevant documents to the attention of staff. Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others: Alongside the Headteacher devise an effective system to monitor assessment and target setting within each year group regularly throughout the year. Support colleagues in implementing strategies for improvement. Regularly and systematically give guidance to colleagues on assessment and target setting. Alongside the Headteacher report to the Leadership Team and Governors on a termly basis regarding the effectiveness of assessment and target setting within year groups and across the whole school.

5 Class Teacher responsibilities You are to carry out the duties of a School Teacher as set out in Pay and Condition Document 2012 and subject to any amendments due to government legislation. This includes any duties as may be reasonably directed by the Headteacher. All staff are expected to uphold the school s principles and policies which underpin good practice and the raising of standards as exemplified in the Belonging to Balfour document. Provide a broad and balanced curriculum according to statutory requirements and school policies. Be effective as a Class Teacher, demonstrating at all times the school s care and concern for the children, and creating an atmosphere in which they can develop and achieve their full potential. Demonstrate high standards of professional commitment, conduct and working practice, reflecting at all times our concern to achieve the highest standards. Follow school policies in the conscientious planning and organising of work, and in assessing, recording and reporting of children s progress. Provide an attractive and stimulating working environment which values children s work. Maintain high standards of conduct, both in the classroom and elsewhere in the school, having regard to the children s safety, well-being and consideration for others Follow the school policies concerning the teaching of RE, worship and prayer. Participate in the shared management of the school through staff meetings and discussions, and commitment to whole-school policies and procedures. Show a commitment to personal professional development and in-service training. To take an active role as reviewee and/or team leader in the appraisal cycle. Liaise with Teaching Assistant support in classroom when available and be line manager to teaching assistant(s) working in your class. Liaise with Lead for Inclusion (LINC) regarding children with additional educational needs including those children who are deemed Gifted and Talented. Follow all agreed Safeguarding procedures are followed in school. Follow all agreed Health and Safety procedures are followed in school.
