Gifted Education Programme (GEP) Screening Test Dates Please be informed of the test dates in relation to GEP for Pr 3 students as follow: Screening test: 23 Aug 2017 Selection Test for shortlisted students: Oct 2017 Venue: Respective Singapore Primary Schools 2. Snack Changkat (Pr 1-3: pm; Pr 4-6: pm) In view of school dismissal at 2pm, Snack Time has been scheduled to allow students to have something light to eat before lunch. This time has also been scheduled with the intention of providing students with a Brain Break after long hours of seat work. As students are not allowed to go down to the canteen during Snack Time, Parents and Guardians are advised to pack food for your child/children or provide him/her/them with sufficient pocket money to buy extra food during recess to be eaten during Snack Time. Parents/Guardians are also advised of the following pointers when preparing food for consumption during Snack Time: Pack nutritious food that your child enjoys eating rather than what you think your child should eat. This will ensure that your child finishes all his/her food during Snack Time. Examples of nutritious foods are: 1

o Sandwiches (e.g. tuna, egg) o Fruits (e.g. apples, oranges, grapes, banana) o Biscuits (e.g. whole grain, oatmeal) o Nuts (e.g. almonds) If necessary, cut the food into smaller pieces so that it is easier and faster to chew. Avoid packing food that is soupy or accompanied with lots of gravy. This will reduce messiness during food consumption in the classroom. 2. School Policy- Class Allocation and Subject Based Banding End-of-Year Class Allocation Levels Progression from Pr 1 to Pr 2 Action No banding for English and Math Banding for CL and ML based on students CL and ML summative test scores at end of Pr 1 o No banding for TL in view of smaller cohort size Culture of Care, Collaboration, Learning and Excellence ST1 and ST3 En Bloc Promotion from Pr 1 to Pr 2 with minor student movements at the end of Pr 1 for special cases. Under Subject Based Banding, Pr 5 and Pr 6 students can take a mix of Standard or Foundation subjects, depending on their overall ability as well as their aptitude in each subject. The intent for Subject-Based Banding is to achieve ability-driven education, allow students to offer subjects at the highest level that they can benefit from and provide students with strong foundation in literacy and numeracy for successful progression beyond primary schools. What is the difference between a standard subject and the corresponding foundation subject? Foundation Subjects put focus on the mastery of core content and skills, and are pitched at a lower level as compared to the corresponding standard subject. Students sit for different PSLE papers for Standard Subjects and the corresponding Foundation Subjects. Studying of Higher Mother Tongue Language 3

The top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take up Higher Chinese at the PSLE will be given bonus points for admission to *SAP (Special Assistance Plan) secondary schools according to the following table: Higher Chinese Grade Bonus Point Distinction 3 Merit 2 Pass 1 *SAP schools nurture students to be proficient in both English Language and Chinese Language, and to have a good understanding and appreciation of the Chinese Culture) The studying of Higher Mother Tongue Language may also strengthen the child s preparation for Mother Tongue Language Paper. However, HMTL score does not count towards PSLE Aggregate score for secondary school placement. The school considers the following factors when offering standard and foundation subjects to pupils: Student s overall performance in all subjects Student s aptitude, ability and motivation for each subject Equipping of students with a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy to prepare students for enhanced long term options in the future School s Subject Based Banding Policy Pr 4 to 5 (Parental option allowed): Criterion Action SA2 overall subject marks 20 marks Assign standard subject (EMS) SA2 overall subject marks 25 marks SA2 overall MT mark 80 Assign standard subject (MTL) Assign HMT Overall Performance of MT for the past 3 years 85 At least a Band 2 for all the other subjects School s Subject Based Banding Policy Pr 5 to 6 (Parental option NOT allowed): Criterion Action SA2 overall subject marks 20 marks Continue with the standard subject (EMS) at Pr 6 SA2 overall subject marks 25 marks Overall MT score > 80 Overall HMT score > 65 (minimum for Merit grade) Continue with standard subject MTL at Pr 6 Continue with HMT at Pr 6 Overall EMS score > 60 (minimum for B grade) 4

3. School Exam Policy 3.1 No exam will be held one day after school holiday and public holiday. This is with the exception of the conduct of Examinations. 3.2 Students who are absent for any of the papers due to illness must present a medical certificate in order to have VR (Valid Reason) reflected in the results slip. Students who are absent for good reasons other than being sick will be granted VR on a case-by-case basis. This will be decided by the Principal or Vice-Principal. Students who are absent for any paper without valid reasons will be given ZERO for the paper. Culture of Care, Collaboration, Learning and Excellence ST1 and ST3 3.3 For a student who appears unwell on the day of exam, School Exam Committee personnel will use their professional judgement to determine the student s suitability to sit for the paper. 3.4 In view of mid-year and final-year exams being used for streaming purpose (Pr 3 to 4; Pr 4 to 5 and Pr 5 to 6), students must minimally sit for the following papers in order to have marks pro-rated for the subject: English Language (EL) Composition (Paper 1) Written paper (Paper 2) Comprehension (LC) Pr 2-4 English Language (EL) and Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Composition/ Situational Writing (Paper 1) Written paper (Paper 2) Comprehension (LC) Pr 5-6 Mother Tongue Language Composition and Written paper (Paper 1/ 2) Compreh ension (LC) Pr 2 Mother Tongue Language Composition and written paper (Paper 1) Written paper (Paper 2) Comprehension (LC) Pr 3-6 5

Math Written papers Practical Test Pr 2-6 Science Written Practical Test Pr Make-Up for Missed Papers Pr 1-2 With the exception of EL & MTL and Comprehension, and Math Practical, make-up will be allowed for the remaining components of EL, MTL and Math within 2 working days from the test date. Papers will be administered to the absentees as and when they return to school during curricular hours. No further make-up will be provided should Students miss the make-up test date. Pr 3-5 Make-up will be administered for Papers 1 and 2 of EL and MTL and written papers for Math and Science within 2 working days from the test date. No further make-up will be provided should Students miss the make-up test date. Pr 6 Make-up will be administered for all papers within 2 working days from the test date. 3.6 Mark Computations for subjects with missed out components Students must have sat for the papers as stipulated in paragraph 3.4 to have marks assigned for the subject. In this case, as Students have not sat for all papers, subject marks will be pro-rated. Otherwise, VR will be reflected under the subject score in the presence of a valid medical certificate or good reason. [Note: If Student is absent for Comprehension or Practical Tests with valid reasons, VR will be keyed in for these components and marks will be calculated accordingly by School Cockpit] 3.7 A worked example of subject marks calculation in School Cockpit Consider the example of P5 English Language with the following components and component marks: Component (Base Mark) Candidate A (Sat for all papers) LC (20 marks) (30 marks) Paper 1 (55 marks) Paper 2 (95 marks) Total (200 marks) ( ) / 200 x 100% = 92.5% Candidate B (Did not sit for Comprehension with valid reason VR (valid medical certificate) ( ) / 180 x 100% = 91.6% 6
