They will return on Thursday 10 May. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $240 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. This rebate has already been deducted from the total cost that parents are asked to pay. We are sure the students will make the most of this very exciting opportunity. They will experience some amazing places and learn so much about our national capital. We look forward to hearing all about it on their return. CONNECT FOR PARENTS Connect is an integrated online environment developed by the Department of Education WA for staff, students and parents in public schools. Your secure login details to Connect includes a P-number and Password. Classroom teachers provided parents with a handout on the parent information evening. A copy of this handout can be found on page 7 of the newsletter. LEGO LEAGUE AND CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING This exciting program for students will ignite enthusiasm for discovery with technology, math and science while working as a team to solve coding and whole world problems. Teams will be established this term culminating with entry to the Lego League competition to be held at Comet Bay College in Term 4 this year. I look forward to working with my staff in support of students while they explore, invent and program as a member of a Lego League team. DEFENCE NEWS Gill, our Defence Transition Aide, was delighted to receive letters of acknowledgement for the work completed by our year five and six students in Gill has inserted the responses for you in this edition of our newsletter. A big thanks to Gill and students for their caring and supportive work for members of the Defence Services. We thank them for their service to our country. CHOIR Our school choir is busy learning many songs as they work with Josh (our music teacher), Talynt and Tim. Members of our school choir will be selected to perform at Comet Bay College on the morning that they commemorate ANZAC Day. Our school choir will also be performing on Friday 13 April (last day of term) at our own ANZAC service. You will be amazed! NAPLAN NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. Children aged one to four years around WA will have access to a free meningococcal ACWY vaccine throughout Parents are encouraged to contact their local GP or Child Health Clinic to schedule an appointment for their child to receive the vaccine. 12 Golden Bay Primary School welcomes the Red Cross Emergency Services team. Representatives from the Red Cross Emergency Services Team will be in attendance at the school on Wednesday 28 February between 2.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. to have informal chats to parents about Emergency Preparedness prior to the planned Rediplan Session on 19 March Stop by and have a chat with a member of the team and find out more about the Rediplan Program and how you can prepare for an emergency. 12
