5 INTRODUCTION Majlisu Ta aleemil Islami, Kerala is dedicated to the reformation and betterment of education in the educational institutions affiliated to it. There are numerous madrasas, schools and colleges that follow the syllabi prescribed by the Majlis. The comprehensive scheme of work now in your hands is meant for affiliated English Medium Schools. English medium schools are mushrooming in every nook and corner of our state. But the standard of education is constantly falling off. This state of affairs can be attributed to various factors. Lack of definite objectives and commercialization of education are some of the factors that result in the poor performance which characterises many of our institutions. Concerted efforts are necessary to solve these grave problems. Majlisu Ta aleemil Islami strives to boost the standard and the quality of education with the co-operation of the principals, teachers, and managements. The aim of education is not mere imparting of knowledge, but the building up of the personality and character of the learners. While the Majlis has prescribed the necessary syllabus for religious and moral education and has prepared textbooks for the purpose, it fully endorses the fact that personality development and character formation can be realized only by systematic planning and concerted effort by the teachers and the school authorities beyond the syllabus and the textbooks. Taking into consideration the changes that have been adopted by the CBSE in its curriculam, ample opportunities are given for project works, assignments, seminars etc. in the academic year plan. This will enable the children enjoy learning in more practical and holistic way. In short, the Majlis visualizes an education with a difference embodied in high quality academic performance supplemented by superb moral character. The planning of all educational activities, curricular as well as co-curricular, should be carried out with due consideration to this objective. To achieve this end, the educators are expected to go hand in hand with the Majlis and its schemes. Let us hope and pray for a bright new academic year. Secretary MTI, Kerala, Kozhikode -1 5
