1 Program Information Academic Program: Academic Year: 2015 (4 new curriculum) B.A. in Religious Studies Select Language: English Religious Studies Applicable to students admitted in Major Programme Requirement Students are required to complete a minimum of 9 units of courses as follows: 1. Faculty Package: 9 Any courses from: ANTH1020, ARTS100, CHLL1900, CUMT1000, CURE1000, 1110, ENGE1000, FAAS1900, HIST1000, JASP1090, LING1000, MUSC1000, PHIL1110, THEO1000, TRAN Required Courses: 24 (a) CURE1111, 2157, 2170, 415; (b) courses from CURE1121, 1124, 1125, 112, 1127; (c) 1 course from CURE 211, 2114, Elective Courses: (a) 10 courses at 2000 or above level from the Areas under Religious Studies; (b) 2 courses at 2000 or above level from the Areas under Cultural Studies. Concentrations Students may choose to declare a concentration by taking the following elective courses in place of above: Religion and Culture (a) 2 courses from CURE1001,100, 1009, 1010; (b) 10 CURE courses at 2000 or above level, of which at least 2 courses are from the Areas under Cultural Studies and at least 8 courses are from the Areas under Religious Studies. Religious Education (a) units of EDUC courses at 2000 and above level from Educational Core Component offered by the Faculty of Education (b) CURE141 or 144; (c) 9 CURE courses at 2000 or above level, of which at least 2 courses are from the Areas under Cultural Studies and at least 7 courses are from the Areas under Religious Studies. Total: 9 Explanatory Notes: 1. Apart from the THEO courses listed in the course list, students may take up to 4 THEO courses as their elective courses in Religious Studies Areas. 2. All CURE, EDUC and THEO 2000 and above level courses will be included in the calculation of Major GPA for honours classification. 3 Minor Programme Requirement Students are required to complete a minimum of 18 units of courses as follows: 1. Elective Courses: (a) Any one course from the following: CURE1111, 1122, 112, 1124, 214 (b) 5 CURE courses from the Areas under Religious Studies[a], with 15 at least 2 courses at 000 or above level and 2 other courses at 2000 or above level. Major Programme: Knowledge: (1) The understanding of religion in its historical settings and contemporary contexts of modern living, globally and locally. (2) The understanding of religion in its different dimensions. () The understanding of religion through a crtical analysis. (4) A basic knowledge of major religious traditions in the world. Skills: (1) Communication and presentational (oral and written) skills. (2) Analytical and problem solving skills. () Social skills and team-work skills. (4) Skills of critical intelligence and appreciative thinking. (5) Skills in cross-cultural understanding and intercultural literacy. () Research skills. Attitude: (1) Awareness of the plurality and multi-faceted complexity within religious traditions of the issues of multiple and conflicting interpretations of religious traditions. (2) Self-critical awareness of pre-suppositions and recognition. () A critical and yet sympathetic understanding and appreciation of religious traditions especially those to which one does not belong. Minor Programme: Upon the completion of the Minor Programme, students will have demonstrated basic
