I hope you all have a wonderful Easter holiday with family. It s crazy to think that we re down to only two months of school. Upcoming Events 4/3 Fourth 9 Weeks Begins 4/6 Report Cards go home 4/9 STAR testing begins 4/10 PTO Meeting 4pm With April comes Severe Weather Awareness month. Our students will be practicing tornado drill procedures in the event that our area experiences a severe storm. We will also be finalizing our emergency operation drill across the district so stay tuned for more information about that. 4/11 Super Hero Day 4/16 4th ELA testing 4/17 4th Grade Grad Pics Our students have been working very hard all year and for our 3rd and 4th graders, it s time to show what you know. State assessments are given later this month and it is very important that students are at school these next few weeks as we start to take a critical look at these assessments. Please reassure your child that they will be fine! 2 KNOX ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTO and School Happenings The Month of April- April is Autism Awareness month! We re also continuing our Angelman campaign in honor of Brady. Several of our staff will be walking in the Angelman Day event in May and are raising funds to donate in Brady s name. Each Wednesday will be designated a Wacky Wednesday and students may pay $1 to dress wacky that day. A flyer went home last month and weekly reminders will also be sent home. Thanks for helping us raise money for this very worthy cause. Tuesday, April 10th- Calling all parents! We need your help! We are looking for new members to add to our PTO. While we have a phenomenal group already in place, most of their children are approaching 4th grade and will need to pass the torch to the next group of parents. Please make plans to be at our April 10th PTO meeting. We need everyone working together to continue providing the awesome activities we ve already been doing. Thanks in advance for your help! NEEDS YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION VISITORS IN THE BUILDING We re seeing an increase in the number of students tardy to school each morning. Please be sure students are here before 8:55am. Once they hit their 6th tardy, they will be assigned a detention. All visitors are reminded that they must sign-in and out through the main office. Please refrain from walking your child down to class in the morning. We have to keep the building secure at all times. 2

4 STUDENTS OF THE WEEK CALLING ALL NEW WARRIORS! Doing Some Spring Cleaning? Mrs. Emmons is once again planning the Salvation Army drive to help those in need. If you have any gently used clothes or items you plan to get rid of, please consider donating them to the drive. We will start collecting in early May. Thanks for your help! 4

5 Box Tops: Winner for March was Maci French. She won four tickets to the Shriner Circus. The prize for April/May will be an Orange Leaf gift card. To be eligible for this prize, Box Tops must be turned in by May 24th. Also remember the winning home room will receive a pizza party at the end of the year. Here are the standings for the top 3 classes: 1) Mrs. Sellaroli 804 2) Mrs. Emmons 725 3) Mrs. Zimmerman 494 If we bring in $3000 for the year the whole school will receive an ice cream party. Congratulations to February s top collector Tyler Ridgway. He won a gift certificate to Cinemark Statewide Testing Grades 3-4 Students in grades 3-4 will be taking state tests in English/Language Arts and Mathematics in April. During these testing weeks, no vacation requests will be approved so please plan accordingly. We do not want your child stressed out about these tests! They will be fine! Our teachers work very hard to teach the required standards to ensure students are learning and growing every day.
