1 Issue: 31 Date: 13 July 2018 Dear Parents / Carers, Welcome to the last newsletter of this academic year. This year has passed by so quickly! I would like to thank you for your continued support of the school and the very kind words that you have shared on your report acknowledgement forms and to us in person. It has been a privilege to work with you this year and over the past three years and we will always cherish the trust you have placed in us. Your children have been a delight to have in our school and we will dearly miss them and you, as our families. Whilst next year presents great change, I am confident that this is a very positive energy that will continue to drive the school forward so that the children continue to have informative and meaningful experiences and achieve to their full potential. We wish Mrs Guthrie and her new team all the very best for next academic year. 2 PTA Sports and BBQ event An enormous thank you to so many of you who braved the furnace heat of Saturday to support the school and the PTA. I am so very grateful to the PTA for hosting such an amazing event. This was many hours of planning and organisation and I so excited and delighted to confirm that we took in excess of 1,000. This brings our fund raising to just under 4,000. This is earmarked for the following; Playground markings Playground equipment and games Cover for bike and scooter park I am sure that the children on School Council will enjoy choosing these items with Mrs Guthrie and her new team. A Note from the PTA Our first goal was to have some game markings painted on the playground which we can now look to do. We will be working with Mrs Guthrie and her team in September to identify our next fundraising objectives and would love to hear your ideas to! We now need to grow our PTA and in September will be inviting you to our AGM to hear our plans and hopefully encourage some more parents/carers to get involved.

3 Once again, a huge thank you to our sponsors: ERP Partners, David Isaacs (who donated the amazing burgers and sausages), Kings Hill Properties and Capital Space. Thank you to all of our volunteers on the day, to everyone who donated raffle prizes and a special thank you to Logan in Year 3 who showed huge initiative to run his own stall and raised doing so. This overwhelming input has had great results which will directly benefit our school and our children. Your PTA French Club Bonjour! We have just completed our very first year of French Club at school, and medals and certificates are being handed out to our hardworking French Clubbers. From September, French Club will be open to all children entering Years 2 & 3 at school, and will run on a Monday lunchtime, cost is 5 per session, start times and further details TBA and will be provided on request. Existing pupils have first refusal. Please register your interest before the end of term to secure your place, first come first served. 5 Penguins This Year This year, we opened the SRP and welcomed 5 new pupils to Penguin Class and into the whole school. All pupils in Penguin Class have been fully welcomed into Kings Hill and made a huge impact on staff and pupils. Everyone has worked hard to make progress academically and in their ability to manage in mainstream class. Some pupils are now spending as much as 75% of their day in their main class. This year 3 members of the class have been published as part of two of our Drop Everything and Write competitions. Callum went on his very first school trip and Jasper achieved his 25m swimming badge. We have done so much over this school year and we are very proud of every member of Penguin Class. Over the Summer It would be helpful to keep practising all the times tables and reading every day. Try to write about all the wonderful activities you do over the holidays and draw pictures to show to us when you return in September.

6 Panda Class What an amazing year Panda Class have had with so many exciting adventures. I am very pleased to report that they are more than ready for Year 1. So to ensure that we keep up their readiness for the next year group please support our Pandas in their continuous strive for independence. Keep them enjoying reading, environmental text, books, comics. Get them writing your shopping lists, postcards and notes and using maths in everyday activities counting, weighing and measuring. Have a wonderful summer. Some books we have enjoyed this week.

7 Year 1 It has been another busy week in Year 1, with lots of learning taking place. We have been working on fractions in Maths, halving and quartering amounts and shapes. The children also learned about direction, looking at clockwise and anticlockwise, and also quarter and half turns. In English, we have continued reading Invisible Stanley and this week the children wrote character descriptions and diary entries. Then we moved onto creating storyboards using photographs of the children freeze framing different scenes from the book, which they could then use as a writing aid for retelling the story. The children are now excited for their journey into Year 2 and working with their new Class Teacher. To continue to support the journey, please continue to read with your child over the holidays and talk about what they have read. Maths is all around us; ask them to calculate small amounts in change and practice quick recall of number bonds up to 20. In order to help you with the end of year expectations in Year 2 we will be sending home a booklet next week. Please look out for this in their book bag.

9 Year 2 It has been my pleasure to have taught all the children in Year two this year and I am so very proud of every single child in the class and the achievements and progress they have made. Thank you for the continued support you have shown at home. I hope you all enjoy the summer holidays, and spend plenty of quality family time together, hopefully in some more of this lovely sunshine! It may be helpful for your child to write postcards home to family/friends if you go on any trips throughout the holidays, or perhaps begin a diary as they are all very experienced in how to write diary entries! I wish them every success for all of their future endeavours!

Throughout the year I have been extremely impressed with how Year Five and Year 6 have collaborated together to put on an excellent end of year production as well as superb school assemblies. Each and every member of both classes should feel very proud of their achievements. I am very sad to say goodbye to this year group! Over the Summer!
