OPTA Annual Conference in April b. What is it? Jeopardy-style game that teams of 4 students from PT and PTA students participate in. 12 teams participate in 4 rounds. Winner of each round compete in final round to determine winner! i. Questions written so PT and PTA students can participate as well as at any stage of their program ii. Group of students put together to write questions for c. Must be registered for at least 1 day of the conference to participate and be an OPTA member d. Second years attend first-year orientation, intermittent talks with the first years to encourage and assist their transition into the program, use of the buddy system iii. What community events is your program involved in? 1. Involvement in bringing awareness to the local community of our program through fundraising events such as representation at school and at local restaurants.

4 iv. What are you most excited about/what event have you found the most exciting during your time in your program? 1. Welcome week a lot because it is a great way to highlight the program. v. What does your program do to get involved in state and national professional events? 1. Each year we have the opportunity to go to the leadership conferences and in the past others have also went and got a chance to get to know the APTA and OPTA more. c. Student Volunteer Challenge i. Now open! Competition between all PT and PTA schools in Ohio to do the most service hours ii. Register your program online for programs hours to count as well as logging the hours 1. PTs and PTAs should be familiar with what each other learns ii. PTs with work with multiple PTAs and vice versa iii. Opening communication of work, specialties is important in helping us reach the common goal: helping the patient iv. Ask questions when you don t know, aren t familiar. v. Know your limitations. Being active in the association helps up learn limitations 1. Beyond just physical limitations. Limitations include laws (PTs may not know everything PTAs can and cannot do) vi. Each PT and PTA have different styles of treating. As you work together, you have to learn one another s ways vii. Communication system in place to communicate needs, wants, misunderstandings, and keeping the patient as priority viii. Work together to change POC for patient s best care ix. Working together to understand patient medications and PT implications

5 x. Respect each other s past experiences and professions and how that influences their treatment as well as educational background xi. PTAs can work towards advanced proficiencies began in Mentoring with a PT supervisor. 60 CEUs in specific area you re trying to get advanced proficiency in + 2,000 patient-care hours under PT mentor. Typically completed in 2-5 years. xii. One PTA program in NE district is transitioning to Bachelors degree.
