3 Executive Summary In 2016, Triluma Living Collaborative was awarded a Seed grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The purpose of this grant was to gather feedback and develop a framework for an inclusive urban village. Triluma Living Collaborative is a young, social enterprise whose ultimate aim is to build an affordable, diverse, inclusive housing complex for adults with disabilities, seniors, families and artists, using the arts as a community builder and economic driver. With a background in the artistic direction and financial management of ground-breaking community arts programming in healthcare, Triluma s three co-founders were inspired to take their proven success and experience into a wider context that would encompass housing, meaningful livelihood, a circle of support, and ecological stewardship. With a solid background in arts programming and community building, and a strong connection to the disability community, we needed to explore the following questions: Was there truly an interest in a cooperative, inclusive, and intergenerational housing model among our identified constituents? Could this ambitious blueprint be financially viable and sustainable? We began our project by commissioning a study on similar existing housing models, local and international. We hired four consultants to advise on and produce evaluation tools and methods, a business and property management plan, and a study of fundraising and organisational strategies. We partnered with another community arts project, Ahuri Theatre s What Dream It Was, to reach more people in the arts and disability community. We developed an extensive questionnaire and conducted 4 focus group discussions that involved 22 participants and were documented. We used the online tool Survey Monkey to send out our questionnaire to 192 contacts and received a 20% response rate. We crafted a shorter postcard survey that we introduced to an even wider audience through our partner, Ahuri Theatre. We calculate that our process of gathering feedback affected, directly and indirectly, 548 individuals. We then compiled, summarized, and interpreted our findings in a final Evaluation Report. The feedback we received was beyond our expectations. The key elements of our vision accessibility, inclusion, diversity, nature, engagement, creativity became themes that people not only embraced but expanded upon. Their feedback also contained a number of unexpected results which we intend to explore further as we hone our vision according to what participants have said is important to them. The results of our collaboration with the other consultants can be found in this report: Case Studies of Accessible Housing and Inclusive Communities; Business and Property Management Plan; and Fundraising and Organizational Strategies. The findings from these revealed that there do exist other housing models that include some of the elements of Triluma s vision but we found none that included all of them. We now understand the economic viability of our project, and its challenges. We are also newly

4 aware of a range of alternative social finance strategies that could create more options for our constituents. With these solid, practical tools and learnings now in hand, we are well positioned to identify and develop the partnership relationships we need in order to carry our vision to the next level.
