3 Luton Infant & Nursery School Our Aims are To provide a happy, secure and stimulating learning environment. To encourage children to have active and enquiring minds, to be able to question and reason and to be capable of independent thought and action. To provide a broad and balanced curriculum which recognises children s prior learning and develops their skills and knowledge. 4 Luton Infant & Nursery School Number on roll: 280 Luton Infant and Nursery School offers an education that enables the unique talents in every child. Our inspirational and experienced teaching team provide an environment that nurtures a love of learning, enquiry, creativity, teamwork, unity and service. Most pupils make strong progress from their very low starting points and the culture of high expectations for all is the norm. We support children to evaluate and reflect on their own learning, enabling them to develop the skills for continuous self improvement. We are situated in Luton, on the outskirts of Chatham in the Medway Towns. Luton Infants shares a site with the neighbouring Junior school. The two schools aim to ensure continuity and progression of provision. The school is easily accessible by bus and the M2 motorway. There are currently 54 staff at Luton Infants. This figure includes 10 full-time and 3 part-time teaching staff and numerous support staff. All the teaching staff have responsibility for leading a curriculum area. We are an inclusive school and our intake is very diverse and reflects the multicultural nature of the Medway Towns. About 50% of our children receive pupil premium funding and currently about 40% of the children are on the SEN register. 40% speak English as an additional language and there are nearly 30 languages spoken through the school community. We are a three form entry school and we also run part time Nursery provision (am and pm). We have strong and stable staffing, including a Senior Leadership Team of Acting Head Teacher, two Assistant Head Teachers and two middle leaders. Our established middle leaders lead year groups, our SEN work, develop initiatives and take a leading role in planning the curriculum. Currently PPA is delivered by our very experienced teaching assistants who regularly work in the classes. We are committed to investment in IT resources and all classrooms have interactive whiteboards and access to a school set of learnpads in addition to other ICT hardware. We have a playground, outdoor learning areas for Early Years and an area for Forest Schools work. We work at building strong relationships with our parents/carers and they are very much welcomed as part of our school community. 3

5 Job Advert: Head Teacher Luton Infant & Nursery School, Alexandra Road, Chatham, Kent ME4 5AP Start Date: January 2017 Salary: Group 3, L18 - L24, 59,264-67,963 Following the retirement of our successful and well respected Head Teacher, the Governors of Luton Infant and Nursery School are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, passionate Head Teacher who is committed to leading our team and inspire us to continue to improve and raise pupil achievement. Luton Infant and Nursery School is a multi-cultural school with a high proportion of SEND pupils. 50% of pupils are entitled to pupil premium funding and mobility is extremely high. Our recent Ofsted inspection judgements in May 2016 secured a Good for Early Years and Behaviour and Safety but Requires Improvement overall. With this in mind, the Governing Body are looking to recruit an experienced Head Teacher who can demonstrate an extensive track record in driving forward and securing whole school improvement in order to prepare us for our next Ofsted inspection. 11 Luton Infant & Nursery School Person Specification Head Teacher The ideal candidate will be able to show how they meet the following: 1- Qualifications & Experience QTS Successfully completed or part way through NPQH or equivalent qualification (e.g. MA Education) Successful recent leadership experience as head teacher Substantial and varied teaching experience across the 3-7 range 2- Knowledge & Skills An up-to-date understanding of national policy, curriculum developments and the statutory and legal framework within which a school operates, including the new OFSTED framework Knowledge of what constitutes good and outstanding teaching Knowledge of how to improve the quality of teaching and learning and be able to demonstrate the delivery in school Understanding of tools for the interpretation, analysis and use of data to inform school improvement Sound knowledge of EYFS and the National Curriculum and their assessment for pupils. 3- Shaping the future Is able to create a shared vision which translates to inspirational strategic planning and positive change Is able to motivate and work with others to create a shared culture and positive climate Values the views of stakeholders and can communicate effectively with all stakeholders Is able to work with governors in setting and monitoring priorities 4- Leading teaching and learning Can promote a successful learning culture for all in the school, and model this as the lead learner Has experience of monitoring and developing teaching within a school, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child s learning Has a clear philosophy on how the curriculum can meet children s needs Is able to secure high standards of behaviour and attendance Demonstrates a commitment to continuing professional development for all 10
