10 CAREERS Schools and colleges should be encouraged to prioritise longer internships for older students, reflecting the fact that almost no young people move into full-time employment at 16; and government should correspondingly remove their statutory duty to provide every young person at KS4 with a standard amount of work-related learning. Component 2: C19 Novel and Poetry since 1789 (50%) Content C19 novel and poetry from the Edexcel anthology Develop skills to analyse how the language, form, structure and context of texts can create meanings and effects Develop skills to maintain a critical style and informed personal response develop comparison skills Assessment Section A: C19 novel - 2 part question on an extract and then the relevance of the theme throughout the novel Section B: 1. One question comparing 2 poems from the anthology 2. One question comparing 2 unseen poems Section B: Total marks = 80 Exam duration: 2hrs 15mins

32 AQA GCSE MATHS New GCSE with grades 9 to 1 All exams sat in summer 2017 Three 1 hour 30 minute papers One paper will be without a calculator All students entered for Higher Level

33 Maths Setting Students split into two bands depending on their option choices Within each band split into sets All sets doing Higher GCSE Sets 1 and 2 may also have the chance to study for additional mathematics qualifications

35 Things to consider Recent research shows that an extra hour a day of TV, Internet or games in Year 10, results in two grades lower at GCSE. A recent highly publicised report highlights the problem of students using social media at night, for example waking up for messages. This has the effect of disrupting sleep and can have a significant impact on mental health. Our advice is to leave mobile phones downstairs at night.
