2 Introduction Parents or guardians of students enrolled in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System can now view their child s academic progress through PowerSchool, the District s student information system. PowerSchool is used to view student attendance, grades, transcripts, report cards and more. PowerSchool brings together teachers, students, parents and administrators in an easy to use web-based data system that provides real-time information over the Internet. Recent studies have shown that parental involvement is critical to student learning achievement. PowerSchool assist with parental involvement by keeping everyone connected. With parents participating through the portal, they have access to information to help keep their child on top of assignments and grades as they occur. In summary, parents or guardians can accomplish the following online: Access real-time student performance data Track assignments and attendance Communicate with teachers through 2

3 Getting Started To gain access, you must be the parent or guardian that registered the child and have a valid picture ID. You will need to see the Parent Access Representative at your child s school to obtain an Access ID and Access Password. The parent or guardian who registered the child will be able to share the same Access ID and Access Password with the other parent or guardian. Creating an Account 1. Open your web browser and type 2. Click on the Family tab. 3. On the left hand side, click on Parent Access. 4. Click on the PowerSchool icon. You will see the following screen. 5. Click on the Create Account button. 6. Enter in all of your information in the Create Parent/Guardian Account section. 7. In the Link Students to Account section, enter your child s last and first name in the Student Name field. 8. In the Access ID field, enter the Access ID that you received from the Information Specialist at your child s school. 9. In the Access Password field, enter the Access Password that you received from the Information Specialist at your child s school. 10. In the Relationship field, click on the drop down arrow and select your relationship to the child you are registering. 11. Click the Enter button to complete the account setup process

4 Note: If you have more than one child attending the Savannah Chatham County Public School System, make sure you receive their Access ID and Access Password from the Parent Access Representative at their school. Logging In After you create your account another screen will appear for you to enter in your User Name and Password. Click the Submit button after entering in the appropriate information. Once you have logged into Parent Access, you will be on the start page, which is the Grades and Attendance page by default. Note: If you have more than one child in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System you will see tabs with their names. In order to view their information, click on the corresponding tab. 4

5 Explanation of Icons The Main Menu at the top of the Start page consists of several icons with links to the following features Grades and Attendance On this screen, you will find a complete listing of all your child s classes, teachers, current grades and attendance information. Any text in blue is a clickable link and when clicked on, will open additional information. Attendance by Class shows two weeks of attendance. Classes show the teachers names. Clicking on the teachers name will allow you to see the individual assignments. Reporting Term shows the grade that the student received for that quarter or semester. If you click on the grade, a list of assignments will be displayed. To view absences or tardies for a selected class, click on the number in the Absences and Tardies column. To view absences or tardies for all classes, click on a number in the Attendance Totals row. You will be able to view absences and tardies for the current term. 6 2 Grades History On this screen, you will find the grade history for your child, and view final grades from previous classes. Quarter & Semester Courses Letter & Percent Grades Credit Hours Any text in blue is a clickable link and when clicked on, will open additional information. 3 Attendance History On this screen, you will find the attendance history for the current term. 6

7 4 Notification Parents or guardians have the option of receiving on a regular basis. In the What information would you like to receive select the items that fit your needs. Once you are finished making your selection, click Submit. 5 Teacher Comments On this screen, you will be able to view any notes left by the teacher. Click on the teachers name to view comments. 7

8 6 School Bulletin On this screen, you will be able to view announcements. 7 Class Registration On this screen, you will be able to request classes for next year. (This feature is not available until scheduling time.) 8 Account Preferences On this screen, you will be able to manage your account settings. 8

9 Print Icon If a page displays a Print Page icon, click on the icon to print the page. Logging Out When you are finished navigating throughout Parent Access, click on the Logout button to exit.
