16 Character Map Year 10 Year 10 students will be focusing on their character maps on Friday afternoons as part of their tutor programme. Elements of this include, the D of E programme, work experience and attending a school trip. Yr 10 Parents Information Evening- Sept

19 Allocated Place Enables you to develop employability skills and gives you a real taste of the world of work, as well as giving you a chance to think about learning opportunities and career choices. You will have placements with a wide range of employers, BUT not all sectors will offer placements so you have to be realistic about the placement you may get. You may not get your top choices, especially if you go for popular placements. Yr 10 Parents Information Evening- Sept

20 Own Placement If you think you may get your Own Placement you will need to get an Own Placement form to complete from Mrs Denslow or Mrs Ratnage Ask local employers Ask family and friends that have businesses Try to avoid work experience with your parents or previous school for maximum benefit Get a SOP Form from Mrs Denslow or Mrs Ratnage and it MUST be completed and signed by the employer. Return SOP to Mrs Denslow or Mrs Ratnage by 20 th September or you will need to make choices on the system Yr 10 Parents Information Evening- Sept

21 Two pathways Own Placement Allocated Place Before 20 th September Details of work placement to Mrs Ratnage on the Basic Notification Sheet. Before Tuesday 9 th October Consent form given to Mrs Ratnage. Remember no consent form, no work experience! 13 th July 2018 Student online form completed Parent online consent form completed 25 th September 2018 Now Urgent Students get pin to access system if above forms are completed Between December 2018 and February 2019 School sends agreement form to employers. 12 October 2018 Students submit 6 choices online Jan 2019 places allocated. 22 Key things to remember: You will need to make your choices and submit six by the 12 th October If a placement gets over subscribed we will take it off the system so to get the best opportunities log in when you receive your PIN You must be able to get to any placement you choose, so think about how you will travel there. Some placements may have application forms- this will be indicated on the job description online If you want work experience in a specific sector think about securing your own placement.

23 Remember Once allocated a placement you cannot change it unless there is a GOOD reason and there will be a charge of Charges will apply for placements outside Oxfordshire (30.00) To stand the best chance of the placement you want meet the deadlines! You will be given preparation for work experience before your placement starts. Contact your employer as soon as you receive official placement confirmation to confirm your placement.

24 Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

25 This is a nationally recognised award, that challenges students to take part in activities in four areas, Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Expedition. The award tests resilience and resourcefulness and completion of the award is very favourably viewed by employers and college admissions tutors.

26 Year 10 Bronze Award: Supported through the Tutor Programme All students receive training Option to take the assessment

27 25 th September Duke of Edinburgh Training Day 3rd-4th, 10th-11th May - Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Training Expedition 25 th -28 th May Bronze Assessed Expedition Please try to keep a combination of these dates free. Compulsory attendance on one training and one assessed.

38 Science We have completed B1-3, C1-2 and P1-3, already. Exam board AQA Combined science trilogy No controlled assessments, required practicals instead. Six exams at end of course (summer 2020).

39 How to support: Homework Good quality independent study is absolutely vital. Homework will be set every week (Saturday to following Sunday) at Support sessions are on Thursdays after school and Friday lunch time (in IT1) Students will have PLCs and knowledge organisers so that they know what to study. You can use these documents to support your child if they miss a lesson and to complete extra work at home. Revision guides are available from school (at discount) 5.50 for combined science and for triple science. Science revision website Achieve in science has numerous resources, including videos and worksheets to support independent learning.
