1 HEAD OF DIGITAL LEARNING and KEY STAGE 2 TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION This job description will be reviewed as part of the Appraisal and Performance Review system, and any changes may be mutually agreed between the teacher and Headmaster during the interim. Directly responsible to: 1. The Headmaster (Overall responsibility) 2. Deputy Head (Pastoral issues) 3. Director of Teaching and Learning (Subject teaching) 4. Bursar (Digital Learning Development budget and hardware installation) The post-holder will work closely with: 1. The ICT Network Manager GENERAL DUTIES OF ALL TEACHING STAFF: To teach classes as allocated by the Headmaster and Director of Teaching and Learning, having due regard to the aims and policies of the school, current schemes of work and any relevant ISEB syllabuses. To share in the corporate responsibility for the pastoral care, well-being and discipline of all pupils at St Francis School with reference to the school s commitment to Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies, in full compliance with all statutory regulations, in particular Keeping Children Safe in Education. To support and promote the ethos of the school, upholding the core values outlined in the St Francis Framework. To uphold and support the Staff Code of Conduct. To ensure that corridors, classrooms, pitches and all other school areas are safe places for the children, reporting any hazards to the appropriate authority. To support school functions and activities whenever possible, and to take an active part in the extra-curricular life of the school and its pupils. The role encompasses two main elements: A. Head of Digital Learning throughout the school. B. Teaching in Key Stage 2 (with the possibility of some teaching in Years 7 and 8). A: Head of Digital Learning The Head of Digital Learning is responsible for the effective development of the use of digital technology in the teaching and learning at St Francis School. The post-holder will also be required to lead the implementation of whole school software to all staff (for example, Google G Suite for Education currently being introduced throughout the school).

2 1. Engage with and lead all members of the teaching staff (EYFS, Pre-Prep and Prep) in the development of how digital technology can be used most effectively within and across the curriculum. 2. Review and revise the school s Digital Learning Development Plan, produced in response to the report provided by David Horton (IAPS Subject Adviser) following an ICT Audit in Continue the momentum already in place for the development of Google G Suite for Education by pupils, teachers and administrative staff. 4. Keep abreast of the latest developments in the use of digital technology in the classroom through attendance at external INSET, ICT in Education events such as BETT, visits to other schools and liaison with individuals such as the IAPS ICT Subject Adviser. 5. Continue to lead the school s one-to-one device strategy, in particular by managing the use by senior pupils of the school s Google Chromebooks. 6. Provide staff with support and advice through: Delivering INSET sessions, both formal and especially informal; Linking staff to one another to share good practice, skills and knowledge; Sharing information about hardware as well as programs, applications and software (including licenses). 7. Act as a technical assistant to staff, as required, although the support function will be provided predominantly by the ICT Network Manager. 8. Work with the teaching staff to identify how digital technology can be used by pupils and staff to raise levels of achievement and standards. 9. Chair the Digital Learning Development Committee. 10. Contribute to planning and evaluating the whole school development of digital technology in the school, with special reference to the relevant section of the School Development Plan. 11. Manage the Digital Learning Development budget effectively, liaising carefully with the Headmaster, Bursar and other members of the SMT responsible for specific areas of the school (Head of Pre-Prep, Nursery Manager, Director of Teaching & Learning). 12. Be responsible for the costing/tendering/awarding of any installation contracts and/or purchases in liaison with the Headmaster and Bursar. 13. Carry out an ICT teaching commitment across a variety of year groups. 14. Be responsible for the maintenance and development of the ICT Subject Curriculum. 15. Lead the school s promotion of E-Safety and attend meetings of the E-Safety Committee. B: Teaching role 16. To teach a range of subjects to a class or classes as directed by the timetable. 17. To teach all pupils to the highest standard, following the school s ethos of Assessment for Learning setting and marking appropriate and sufficient classwork and homework, where relevant. 18. In accordance with the agreed schemes of work, to plan and evaluate lessons which enhance the education of pupils of all ability groups, ensuring that there is progression and continuity of work for all pupils. 19. To ensure that lessons are well planned with clear aims and objectives, taking into account differing abilities of pupils. 20. To deliver appropriate lessons in a professional manner, taking into account the school s policies on differentiated learning and on pupils with learning needs and disabilities. 2

3 21. To mark any written work conscientiously, following school policy, and to set targets for future development as appropriate. To record the results of any assessments made in an accessible format. 22. To encourage pupils to be actively involved in the learning process and in reviewing their own performance. 23. To identify and adopt the most effective teaching and learning approaches and to keep abreast of contemporary educational issues relevant to the subject. 24. To identify and teach study skills that will develop an individual s ability to work independently. Supervisory Duties and Pastoral Role 25. To carry out break time or lunch supervision duties as directed by the relevant member of the SMT. 26. Maintain good order and discipline among the children and safeguard their health and safety in accordance with the school policy. 27. Attend school lunch daily supervising children, and helping to promote good manners and civilised behaviour in the dining room. 28. Uphold the school s behaviour code and uniform rules. Liaison with parents 29. To take reasonable steps to maintain cordial relations with members of the parent body, responding to requests for information and assistance. 30. Communicate and meet with parents as appropriate and respond positively, professionally and promptly to s, letters and messages from parents. 31. To attend parent/teacher consultations as organised by the school. Where unavoidable commitments exist elsewhere, to ensure that alternative arrangements are made in order to keep parents informed of their children s progress. 32. Provide syllabus summary details to the relevant Head of Department for each year group to be published on the school website at the start of each term. Administrative and organisational tasks 33. To take all reasonable steps to follow the procedures and policies laid down in the current Staff Handbook. 34. To attend staff meetings at various levels in order to discuss and become more familiar with issues concerning pupils, teaching and school organisation. 35. To fulfil the requirements of the school with regard to record keeping and report writing. 36. To be involved in marketing and effective communication by regularly updating information where required on the school s website and by providing articles for the website news section, the school newsletter and for the school s social media. 37. To take responsibility for the upkeep of books and other resources. To maintain to the highest standards the classroom fabric and displays. Professional expectations and development 38. To attend School before the start of term for INSET and Preparation Days (and after the end of term, as required) to make necessary preparations as required by the Headmaster. 3

To take part in the school arrangements for staff Appraisal and Performance Review, undertake observed teaching sessions, complete the required documentation, provide work for scrutiny and seek to fulfil the targets agreed as part of the performance review system. 40. To attend on and off site training courses in order to develop teaching knowledge and skills, and in certain cases to gain qualifications appropriate to responsibilities currently held. This will be by mutual agreement with the Headmaster, and may link to the staff performance review system. 41. To set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance. Additional tasks undertaken: In addition to the above, the member of staff may be required to undertake the following task(s): 42. To be involved in the school s sports coaching and fixtures programme (where relevant); 43. To be part of the rota for supervision of homework club, if relevant; 44. To run a school club on at least one evening (some Pre-Prep clubs may be at lunchtime) each week during term time, the day, location and activity to be agreed with the relevant club coordinator in advance. 45. When necessary, to cover for absent colleagues, supervising classes as directed. 46. To carry out any other tasks or duties, as appropriate commensurate with the salary and job title, as requested by the Headmaster or as required by the school. Headmaster September

5 HEAD OF DIGITAL LEARNING and KEY STAGE 2 TEACHER PERSON SPECIFICATION The school is seeking a qualified graduate who, for the teaching of specific subjects, has studied or taught their subject to a high level and who has a relevant teaching qualification. Essential Skills, Qualities, Experience and Qualifications General Experience of teaching a range of subjects within the prep school age range (including Humanities, particularly History); High levels of energy, enthusiasm and commitment; Excellent communicator with parents, pupils and colleagues; Ability to demonstrate honesty and integrity; Ability to deal sensitively with people and resolve problems; A hard-working team player with an eagerness to participate fully in the life of a busy Prep School; An effective and successful teacher with firm discipline, high personal standards and high expectations of pupils, along with a sense of humour; Ability to provide for pupil-centred learning and develop the benefits of cross-curricular learning; Ability to differentiate for EAL/SEN/less able, whilst ensuring a very high level of aspiration for the most able; An ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children; An ability to be adaptable and to solve problems. Specific An ability and personal qualities to inspire pupils and staff in their use and development of digital technology in the classroom; Knowledge, experience and interest in the use of digital technology for teaching and learning; Clear evidence of a vision for developing a range of digital technology for use in the classroom; Experience of teaching ICT successfully; A sound administrator, with an ability to see the wider picture; A high level of ICT competence for use in the classroom and in administration. 5

6 Desirable Skills, Qualities, Experience and Qualifications Experience of teaching across a number of relevant year groups and Key Stages; Experience of working with Google Suite for Education (previously known as Google Apps); Prior experience of contributions to a subject department and to the whole school; Evidence of recent professional development; A strong working knowledge and understanding of the requirements of E-Safety.
