I understand that it is my responsibility to get any and all missing work and also to replenish supplies when needed. All policies regarding electronics, dress code, etc. will be enforced as stated in the handbook. 2 Academic Math Contract In an effort to help your child be successful in Math this year, we have the following support interventions in place. Read the interventions with your child as these will occur in the order listed below. Please sign below, and also have your child sign below, indicating you have reviewed the process. Thank you for joining us in this process and supporting your child s learning. Step 1: Missing 2 or more assignments = Meeting with Ms. Rood during lunch to work on missing assignments. (Get your lunch first.) Step 2: Missing 4 or more assignments, have a failing test, or absences resulting in missing work = Classwork Retrieval Club (Parents are Called). We will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30. Step 3: No improvement or repeat offender = Parent Meeting Step 4: Continued No Improvement = Parent Meeting with Administrators Student Signature Parent Signature

3 School Year Pre-Algebra Syllabus Lake Stevens Middle School Dear Parent/Guardian, I love Math and I am looking forward to having a very successful year with your students. I provide a well defined structure so that all the students in this class can be successful. Big IDEAS: This curriculum is designed with a series of exploratory activities followed by skill practice. Students are encouraged to reason, inquire, and persevere. In addition, students will be preparing to meet the challenges of Smarter Balance testing. Your students will develop an understanding of mathematical concepts and operations. This includes basic operations, expressions and equations, inequalities, ratios and proportions and percents, lots of geometry and statistics and probability. In addition we will spend time on word problems. There will be an emphasis on the student showing the work needed to solve the problem as well as learning how math works (number sense). Your student should keep this syllabus in their binder or composition book as a ready resource for questions or clarification. I would appreciate it, if both you and your student would complete and return the signature sheet. Please contact me at any time with questions or feedback. 4 STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: 1. I will respect everyone and everything in this classroom. This means I will respect each person as an individual. I will listen to other s opinions even if I may not agree with them) and I will take care of the supplies and the classroom. 2. I will be in my assigned seat ready to work when the bell rings or I will be considered tardy. 3. I will remain in my assigned seat at the end of the class period until the teacher dismisses me. The teacher dismisses me, not the bell. 4. I will follow directions the first time given. 5. I will come to class with the necessary supplies: textbook, paper, pencil, calculator and other supplies necessary for learning to take place. 6. It is my responsibility to find out what assignments or tests I have missed when absent and turn them. 7. I will bring no food or drink except water into the classroom. 8. I will take care of personal matters before or after class. 9. I will not disrupt the learning in my class. The teacher has the right to teach; each student has the right to learn. 10. It is my responsibility to keep my electronics and cell-phones turned off and put away. If they are visible, I will give them to the teacher. I will pick them up after school from the office 11. I will follow the guidelines and expectations as stated in the student handbook.

5 BEFORE SCHOOL, LUNCH AND AFTER SCHOOL I am available before and after school. Students must make arrangements to work with me for any reason outside of normal class hours. Warm-ups, homework, quizzes and tests. I strongly encourage all students to work to improve their grades and make up homework, class work or retake tests. I accept late homework and class work until the end of chapter. I try to give a quiz at least every week. There is no extra credit. Finally, keep all assignments and assessment till the end of the school year Don t throw anything away! RETAKING QUIZES AND TESTS Quizzes or tests may be retaken up to 1 week after the class has completed the chapter. Students must demonstrate a full understanding of the material on a quiz or test before any retakes. Before taking completing a retake students must: Return the quiz/test with the corrections made on a separate piece of paper. DO NOT ERASE YOUR ORIGINAL ANSWERS SO I CAN COMPARE YOUR OLD WORK WITH YOUR CORRECTIONS! In specific cases, I will ask to see all the relevant homework before allowing a student to complete a retake. Give me at least a day to review your work and depending on your corrections, make an appointment to meet with me and complete the retake. Note that any points earned during a retake count for half. For example a quiz is worth 100 points. A student earns 76 pts and then comes in to retake and gets an additional 14 points. The final grade will be /2 or 83 points.
