Howarth M.A. KS2-3 Transition Teacher Required for September 2015 MPS West Hatch High School is looking to appoint a dynamic, committed and enthusiastic teacher to support the transition of our pupils from year 6. This an exciting new position which aims to bridge the gap between primary and secondary school to support the progress for year 7 pupils whose prior learning and attainment are not initially suited to secondary education. West Hatch is a thriving, heavily oversubscribed innovative school. Proud of its success with significantly above average results and recently rated Good by Ofsted, we are always striving for improvement. We are keen to appoint individuals with a positive outlook and a proactive attitude colleagues who enrich the lives of the learners and staff with whom they work. This post is suitable for an NQT or an experienced teacher and involves teaching literacy, numeracy and humanities based subjects to a small group of students to ensure their smooth transition into the school. 2 THE BEST THAT I CAN BE JOB DESCRIPTION POST: KS2-3 Transition Teacher RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Headteacher (KS3) PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Key Stage 2-3 Transition Teacher will oversee the smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 8 for students whose prior learning and attainment are not initially suited to secondary education. This will be achieved through taking responsibility for teaching around 60% of the Year 7 curriculum, focussing on literacy, numeracy and Humanities with an identified group of students together as one class. DUTIES: The Teachers Pay and Conditions Document specifies the general professional duties of a teacher. Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. PARTICULAR DUTIES: Under the overall direction of the Headteacher. TEACHING All teachers are expected to: Carry out duties of a school teacher as set out in the Pay and Conditions Document and subject to any amendments due to Government legislation. Uphold the academy s principles and policies which underpin good practice and the raising of standards.

3 Demonstrate a thorough and up to date knowledge of the teaching of your subject and take account of wider curriculum developments which are relevant to your work. Consistently and effectively plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students individual learning needs. Consistently and effectively use a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and classroom management. Consistently and effectively use information about prior attainment to set wellgrounded expectations for pupils and monitor progress to give clear and constructive feedback. Demonstrate that, as a result of your teaching, your students achieve well, relative to the students prior attainment. Take responsibility for your professional development and use the outcomes to improve your teaching and students learning. Make an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of West Hatch High School. Provide a welcoming environment to visitors and respond within 24 hours to telephone calls and within 7 days to written correspondence. Follow School Policy and support the Leadership Team in the effective operation of the school. Carry out the role of form tutor as required. Undertake any other task reasonably requested by the Headteacher. The successful candidate will have the following: Essential Qualifications and training QTS status and good honours degree relevant subject to this post Evidence of your commitment to your own high quality professional development Skills, knowledge and aptitude Recent knowledge, understanding and teaching of the requirements of the new National Curriculum for literacy, numeracy and humanities subjects at KS2 Excellent and proven ICT skills to enhance teaching and learning Experience of recording, assessment and reporting processes and the ability to secure achievement through challenge and support The ability to differentiate work so that it meets the needs of all learners. Recent knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues within a school setting. Desirable A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school Experience in working within a primary school setting Recent knowledge, understanding and teaching of the requirements of National Curriculum for Maths, English and humanities at KS3 Experience A proven track record of successful teaching and securing outstanding progress through ensuring high quality teaching and learning Personal tutoring and guidance for students showing an ability to establish rapport Evidence of having a good track record in enriching and developing activities to enhance and promote literacy and numeracy beyond the classroom The ability to use data effectively, to monitor and enhance student progress
