The focus of this course is on identifying the characteristics of corporations and recording transaction for the preparation, analysis and interpretation of financial statements. Included are elements of management accounting for planning, control, long-term strategy and decision making. Students identify characteristics of corporations and partnerships and complete accounting transactions related to the preparation and analysis of corporate financial statements. Students also apply management accounting techniques in the accounting control and decision making process. REQUIRED MATERIALS: Horngren, Charles T., Walter T. Harrison, Jr., and Michael A. Robinson. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of borrowing. A. Record the issue of common and preferred stock. B. Record the declaration and payment of cash dividends. C. Distinguish between cash dividends and stock dividends and stock splits. A. Calculate the cash flows of a corporation using the direct method. B. Use the statement of cash flows for decision making. A. Use vertical analysis, horizontal analysis, common size statements and ratio analysis to evaluate the operations of a corporation and make comparisons between accounting periods and other businesses. There should be at least two hours preparation for each contact hour between the instructor and students. Good attendance is essential to success in this course. If you must miss a test, please make arrangements with the instructor BEFORE the time of the exam. If prior arrangements have not been made with the instructor, an alternative test bank exam will be prepared with randomly selected questions. Questions may or may not stress information covered in class.
