3 Introduction Aims of the NQT Induction Programme To provide high quality CPD facilitated by outstanding practitioners, with the desire to improve the impact on student progress. To provide bespoke training opportunities tailored to the targets set by NQTs to develop their career successfully. Why George Spencer Academy Teaching School Alliance? 4 NQT Welcome to the Programme The first core session will be on vv Tuesday 18th September 2018, 16:00 18:00 ĥĥ at George Spencer Academy This session will cover the following: Personal visioning for the year ahead and the Big Picture for your NQT year. Have a chance to meet RQTs to have an open forum about their experiences of their NQT Year. You will be setting individual NQT targets and selecting elective sessions, tailored to your individual needs. There will be an emphasis on professional conduct and how to make a great first impression with pupils and peers. You will also be introduced to fellow NQTs from across the region and to a range of sources of support. 100% of evaluations reviewed the event as Useful or Very Useful The welcome to the programme event made me feel part of a team which reassured me that I will be supported throughout the year! 2/3 Teaching School Alliance NQT Secondary Booklet 18-19

5 Secondary Coaching Training for NQT Mentors vv Friday 21st September 2018, 13:00-15:30 ĥĥ at George Spencer Academy A session for NQT mentors to explore roles, expectations and practicalities and to undertake coaching training. Run by trained facilitators who work at good/outstanding schools and are school leaders with long track records of developing CPD. 6 Secondary NQT Teaching & Learning Programme What? A teaching and learning programme designed for NQTs which focuses on enabling all participants to progress rapidly through the Induction year. Participants will attend 4 core sessions including the Welcome Event and 4 electives. Exploring the key aspects of fabulous learning Core Session Teaching Ideas Not quite 101 but plenty of inspirational, practical ideas for the classroom Wednesday 5 th December 2018 Core Session 4 Use of Data, particularly to Support Disadvantaged Students What does the data tell us about our most vulnerable students and how can we use this in our planning for learning? 4/5 Teaching School Alliance NQT Secondary Booklet 18-19

Elective 2 Positive Behaviour Management Look beneath the behaviour and learn quick wins to build successful relationships with pupils. Elective 3 Questioning Using questioning to promote deeper thinking and stimulate learning. Elective 4 Independent Learning & Differentiation How do we personalise learning and ensure students can learn in-dependently. This session will cover both scaffolding and stretch and challenge for high ability students. Elective 5 Effective learning for P16 Students What are the opportunities and challenges for teaching P16 students? Elective 6 Enhancing Progress for SEND Students Delivering effective learning for students with a range of learning needs. Elective 7 Being an Effective Form Tutor Develop your understanding of the role and practice your skills in relating to parents and carers. Share good practice with other NQTs and more experienced colleagues Elective 8 Making the Most of Literacy in Every Subject Learn about the range of issues surrounding literacy in schools and how you can support pupil progress. Elective 9 Aspiring Mentors A session for those who would like to become a mentor, developing the skills and competencies needed for effective mentoring.

8 The reciprocal teaching resources were fab. I am going to use them tomorrow! I am feeling more prepared for my RQT year

9 Cleared up a lot of questions I had about appraisal The knowledge and passion from the presenters were clear and a motivator to aspire to try out the new strategies and techniques in future lessons.

Details of these will be available shortly. * In response to feedback from Headteachers, the programme has been designed to take place largely outside of school hours to facilitate attendance and reduce costs for schools
