2 Byron Middle School Goals The Byron Middle School goals were derived by reviewing 2016 Fall NWEA MAPS Assessments. The goals were established by a joint team of Administrators and teachers from each team. The first two goals will focus on both reading and math MAPS Projected Growth scores. The third goal will be a collaboration goal where Administration, SIP Team, PBIS Team, Grade Level Teams and students will work to incorporate aspects of the Leader in Me and Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens books to improve the student goal setting process and making student more involved and accountable. Goal #1: By May of 2017, Byron Middle School students will increase NWEA MAPS Projected Growth in the area of Reading by 1.9% (57.1% %) by the common core standard aligned spring MAPS testing assessment. Goal #2: By May of 2017, Byron Middle School will increase NWEA MAPS Projected Growth in the area of Math by 1.8% (56.2% %) by the common core standard aligned spring MAPS testing assessment. Goal #3: By May of 2017, Byron Middle School PBIS Team will work with grade level teams and students to incorporated aspects of the following two books by Stephan & Sean Covey. "The Leader In Me," and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. 2 P a g e

3 SCHOOL/TEAM - BMS SIP Team S.M.A.R.T. Goals Strategic/Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-oriented, and Time bound. GOAL #1: _ By May of 2017, Byron Middle School will increase NWEA MAPS Projected Growth in the area of Reading by 1.9% (57.1% %) by the common core standard aligned spring MAPS testing assessment. STRATEGIES for achieving goal: Use of Professional Development/Common Core Groups to focus on best practice in their classrooms. More closely align building level goals to professional development work, utilizing team based PD days for reading curricular work and assessment review. Review of 2016 Fall NWEA Scores and reports for each class. Class Breakdown by Goal Report Class Breakdown by RIT Report - Shows at a glance the academic diversity of a class Class Breakdown by Goal Report - Shows academic diversity for specific goals within a chosen subject so you can modify and focus the instruction for each student. By Projected Proficiency Report Shows students both On Track & Not on Track based on most recent score for both reading and math. Review Class View - Shows students together with the skills and concepts they need to develop. Review of 2017 Winter Fall NWEA Results and reports for each class and individual student in order to make adjustments for instruction and monitor individual Student Goal Setting progress. Student Goal Setting -Shows a student's test history and growth projections in the selected subject areas for a specific period of time so you can discuss the student s goals and celebrate achievements. Schedule weekly Compass Learning. Student Action Plans will focus on their individual Goal Performance results. Student will work to improve on the lowest goal strand in Reading using Hybridge Compass Learning. o Literature o Informational Text o Vocabulary Acquisition and Use Students will track results on the Activity Log. Teachers will monitor and sign each student quiz that is above 80%. Use Compass Learning Hybridge system to help differentiate reading activities in the classrooms. Continue updating any professional development on new NWEA web-based testing site to increase availability for staff to utilize specific learning data on students, teams and building. (Learning Continuum) Better integrate data from the Learning Continuum to drive flexible groups during core instruction Utilize Learning Continuum to help the individual needs of students during intervention times. GOAL #3 SPECIFIC MEASURABLE ACHIEVABLE RELEVANT TIME-BOUND Culture PBIS Team will begin studying and incorporating aspects of the Leader in Me & 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teen. Pilot groups will review personal monthly goal calendars. Both of these books focus directly on incorporating Student Goal Setting. Starting in November, students will focus on one habit each month. STRATEGIES for achieving goal: PBIS will start a book study on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens book by Sean Covey Purchase Leader in Me book for BMS staff. Staff Trainings Conference call with Leader in Me company. Staff Training at Nov. 14 th SIP day. Pilot staff groups will incorporate Seven Habit of Highly Effective Teens into reading and writing classroom work. (Example) Starting in November, pilot groups will focus on one habit a month. Read one-chapter month that focuses on one particular habit. Students will set a goal based on that habit. Students will monitor and track their progress on monthly calendar. At the end of each month, students will review and discuss how they did regarding the designated habit and their goal. 5 P a g e
