2 Academic Integrity: Important Information for Students with Disabilities: Privacy Policy (FERPA): Attendance/Withdrawal Policies: The successful functioning of the academic community demands honesty, which is the basis of respect for both ideas and persons. In the academic community, there is an ongoing assumption of academic integrity at all levels. There is the expectation that work will be independently thoughtful and responsible as to its sources of information and inspiration. Honesty is an appropriate consideration in other ways as well, including but not limited to the responsible use of library resources, responsible conduct in examinations, and the responsible use of the Internet. (See college catalog for complete statement.) Any student with a documented disability who requires assistance or academic accommodations should contact the Office for Students with Disabilities immediately to discuss eligibility. The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) is located on the Leesburg Campus, but arrangements can be made to meet with a student on any campus. An appointment can be made by calling and specific information about the OSD and potential services can be found at then go to Quick Links and click on Disability Services. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. 1232g; 34 CFR Part99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of a student s education records. In order for your information to be released, a form must be signed and in your records located in the Admissions/Registrar s Office. Regular attendance is essential to learn the material and succeed in this course. If you must miss class, you should contact a fellow student to find out what was covered, copy notes, etc. because you are responsible for what was covered. If you wish to withdraw from the course, it is your responsibility to go to the Admissions Office and do so officially, or you will receive your calculated course grade. Withdrawal Deadline: Withdrawal Deadline Friday March 21 Your grade is based on three components: tests, quizzes, homework,/group work and discussions, and a comprehensive final exam. You must show your work in all cases in order to receive credit for your answers. Take Home Tests will be given on occasion, watch the faculty website and listen carefully in class for announcements. Dates for the tests and final will be pre-announced. For students who end the semester with no more than 2 absences: if the final exam score is higher than any one test, the final exam score will replace the lowest test score. The final exam will not replace a missed test. Methods of Evaluation: Make-up tests will be given at the discretion of the instructor. You must have my permission to take a make-up test BEFORE the test is given to your class. Call or me prior to the test date and GET A RESPONSE from me before you make plans to take a make-up test. The instructor may ask the student to supply supporting documentation (such as a doctor s note). 1 make up quiz will be allowed. In-class quizzes will consist of problems that are very similar to the homework exercises. A makeup quiz will be allowed. after supplemental problems and homework have been submitted. Your grade for the course is determined as follows: Tests 55% Quizzes/in- class & THT collected 15% Homework MyMathLab 10% Final Exam 20% 2
