2 How not to revise! Sitting and re-reading information and going through text and covering the page with highlighter are the worst ways to revise. o We all like to revise like this as it is easy! o Hardly any of the information stays in our heads. Reading and highlighting important notes is a useful thing to do when you are doing something with the information. Use the information and techniques in this booklet to help with your revision. I can guarantee that the more revision you do now, the easier you will find the real GCSE exams. For homework, you will need to have completed a revision timetable and used at least one of the techniques in this booklet to create a revision resource. Bring these into form for Wednesday 21 st October
3 Mon Tues Wed Revision Timetable Make a revision timetable and stick to it! Be realistic; nobody can revise 24hours a day, so don t plan to! Mix things up; split your revision into 15 minute chunks per subject. Revising in blocks just turns into a hassle and doesn t work as well, anyway. Trust me. 5 Mind Maps These are really useful for reviewing whole topics and identifying areas of weakness. Use mind maps at the start of your revision for a topic to see which areas to focus on and at the end to see how well you know the information. Show someone at home. Get them to ask you questions about your mind maps. They don t need to be an expert; they can just ask why does this link to that?

7 Flashcards Make flashcards now and you ll have a readymade resource for your real exams! A great way of learning facts, vocabulary, plot summaries, equations, Biblical teachings Ask someone at home to randomly quiz you. Just 5mins at tea time/breakfast/on the way to school will keep you on your intellectual toes.

9 Foldables Turn your revision into a creative mess! Write a question/key word/character/equation on the front and the answer inside. Use colour and be creative! For more inspiration, search foldables on Pintrest. Make fold-ables to help condense your knowledge. With only a little space you ll have to be good at summarising the key information.

11 Look after yourself! Exams are stressful times. The most important thing is your health, physical and mental. Eat well Eating regular, balanced meals will make you feel better, look better, and cope with your workload much easier. Sleep well The NHS recommends teenagers get at least 8.5 hours sleep per night. Are you getting enough? Exercise Make time in your revision schedule for exercise. 60mins of fast walking, jogging, or sports each day will help you sleep and give you more energy. De-stress Make sure that you don t let things get on top of you. Keep things in perspective. Take regular breaks, schedule free days into your revision timetable, and make sure you keep in touch with friends. o The School Nurse is available for appointments and drop in sessions, if you want more advice on how to cope with stress.
