Getting here: Situated close to the M1, with Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester within an hour s drive There is a coach drop-off point on Gallery Walk by arrangement at time of booking. A pay and display coach park can be found on Quebec Street (WF2 9SA), just 3 minutes drive from the gallery We are just 1 mile from Wakefield Westgate train station, and less than 10 minutes walk from Wakefield Kirkgate train station. Explore our exhibitions with your group through artist-led workshop sessions or self-directed visits. For teachers and group leaders wishing to lead their own visit, entrance to the gallery is free of charge, but booking is essential. 4 GET creative SECONDARY ARTIST-LED WORKSHOPS Our Learning Team includes artists who work in the following art forms: Art Criticism Creative Writing Drama Drawing Movement Music Photography Printmaking Sculpture. Investigate, create and communicate with your Secondary groups: all artist-led activities use the gallery as inspiration artist-led sessions can be differentiated between KS3 and 4 and may be tailored to meet the needs of your group We can accommodate groups of up to 20 or 30 students, depending on the session. Our offer includes: ART Exploring 2D 3D Investigate 2D and 3D artworks and develop your own drawings and sculptural forms. Choose your focus: Clay Carving or Mixed Media Construction. Sense of Place Engage your senses and create mixed-media landscape artworks. Choose your focus: Public Art Brief, Sensory Mapping or Monoprint Collage. Printmaking Create drawings and explore various printmaking processes. Abstracting the Figure Explore how the body has influenced artists, and create abstract forms by using your own body as the basis of sculptures. Choose your focus: Drama or Drawing and Sculpture. Sketchology Sketch your way around the gallery with one of our Creative Practitioners, ideal for sketchbook development. Up to 20 students. Master the Plaster Explore the Hepworth plasters to inspire your own plaster creations. Choose your focus: Bas-relief or Maquette Forms. DRAMA AND LITERACY Place Poems Use stream of consciousness writing, metaphor, repetition and white space to craft and perform free-verse poetry. Devising Drama through Art Encouraging teamwork, students develop their communication skills as they structure narrative and performance. MUSIC Gaps, Hollows, Silence Explore connections between sound and space in Hepworth s pierced forms, through composing, listening and performing. EXPLORE ART Explore & Create Explore our temporary exhibitions through looking, listening, discussion and debate. Choose your focus: Drawing, Sculpture or Drama. All standard sessions cost from 100. 5 GET INSPIRED SECONDARY AND POST-16 ARTIST-LED WORKSHOPS We have developed a range of artist-led sessions suitable for both KS4 and 5 students, which use the gallery as inspiration. Our offer includes: ARTICULATING ART New: Crit Happens Experience the gallery through an art-school crit. Learn to analyse the works, present ideas, discuss and debate. The Language of Sculpture By experiencing processes artists use to make their work, students develop skills in looking and interpreting through making. Supports students in preparation for participating in the ARTiculation Prize* for sixth form students. ARTiculation Discovery Days Using observation, research and analysis of primary and secondary sources, KS4 students work in groups as they prepare to present their thoughts. POST-16 ARTIST-LED SESSIONS Work with a professional artist from our team to understand how artists work through a process of investigation Designed to support portfolio development Sessions accommodate up to 20 students. Our offer includes: Sketchology Creatively sketch and draw as you explore the gallery artwork and space. Architecture Tour Explore the galleries from every angle with our artists. Photography Workshop Explore the gallery through the lens of a professional photographer and learn new ways of looking at spaces. Choose either a two or four hour session for up to 20 students.
