In fact, prjects that culd have been successful ften fail because f such take-it- fr-granted appraches. Individuals need hard infrmatin and real skills t wrk successfully in a prject envirnment and t accmplish prject bjectives. The textbk fr this curse, Successful Prject Management, was written t equip its users with bth by explaining cncepts and techniques and by using numerus examples t shw hw they can be skillfully applied. Tpics include prject management life cycle and prcess; identifying and selecting prjects; develping a prject prpsal; techniques fr planning, scheduling, resurce assignment, budgeting, and cntrlling prject perfrmance; prject risks; prject manager respnsibilities and skills; prject team develpment and effectiveness; prject cmmunicatin and dcumentatin; and prject management rganizatinal structures. The cncepts in the curse supprt the prject management knwledge areas f the Prject Management Institute's A Guide t the Prject Management Bdy f Knwledge (PMBOK Guide). COURSE OBJECTIVES After successful cmpletin f this curse students will be able t: Explain the basic fundatins f a prject management cncepts and vcabulary. Demnstrate knwledge f selecting, planning, perfrming, and cntrlling prjects. Demnstrate knwledge f prject scheduling and budgeting. Evaluate prject risks and hw t mnitr and manage the risks. Demnstrate knwledge f prject management skills, teamwrk, and the rganizatinal structures in which prject management takes place. Exhibit knwledge f applying prject management sftware (MS Prject) t a prject.
2 GRADING Grading fr the curse is based 50% n individual assignments and 50% n team assignments as indicated belw. The prject team will submit weekly prject prgress reprts. With each f the prject submissins as shwn in the Class Schedule, submit a paragraph explanatin f the team's prcess t develp the prject submissin t the discussin bard. The prject team prepares and presents a final reprt including ways t reduce the verall prject duratin, an executive summary f the prject, a list f lessns learned, and a PwerPint presentatin that is presented t the class. 6 Attendance Attendance is critical t the success f the individual student. Each student will be allwed 2 excused absence befre deductins are made frm yur grade. On the 3 rd absence ne grade deductin will be taken. Participatin in the class discussins will be evaluated fr quality and quantity. Quizzes and exams will be a cntributing factr t final grades. Participatin in the class presentatin fr the prject team is mandatry. The nly allwed excused absences are fr: Participatin in a dcumented fficial university functin that des nt permit the participant t attend a class meeting (e.g., participatin n athletic team, field trip, etc.) Severe illness (this des nt include scheduled medical appintment r driving thers t the dctr), a hspital stay, r a dctr's excuse stating that it is impssible fr participant t attend class meeting Death in immediate family (parent, grandparent, sibling, r child) Required appearance in curt Persnal situatins that are apprved by the instructr in advance f the time the participant will be absent The instructr must be infrmed in advance f all such abve absences and will make the final decisin if the absence is excused. Cheating, Plagiarism, and Dishnesty A participant fund cheating, plagiarizing, r acting dishnestly will receive a zer grade fr each assignment assciated with the incident, and may receive an "F" grade fr the curse and be dismissed frm the curse.
