1 Costs Associated with Implementation PBIS Team Training for each school team, typically 8-10 members Training for the team is provided at no cost by the RSE TASC. Behavior Specialist. However costs for the school may involve release time, subs and perhaps some travel. For those interested, the PBIS National Leadership Forum takes place in Chicago each October. The recently established Northeast PBIS Leadership Forum takes place in Connecticut each May. Team training can take 10 full day trainings depending on availability of resources. This may be broken up into hours per day once/twice per month. Subsequent facilitation and coaching can vary per school depending upon skill level of team, monitoring and supervision by building administrators and availability of the team to meet in between training sessions. District wide implementation should include a PBIS Coordinator to oversee all school teams The Benchmarks of Quality Survey is be completed twice yearly through PBISApps.org/PBIS Assessments at no charge to evaluate which critical features require revision and improvement

2 Faculty Commitment Faculty commitment is established through a staff survey which is accessed for free through PBIS Assessments within the PBISApps.org website. This survey is completed annually to maintain commitment and for action planning Schools have may hold full day retreats for team building Staff kick offs are done at the beginning of each school year for team building and to review and establish the system Effective Procedures for Dealing with Discipline A computerized system must be established for disciplinary data collection. Graphs must be a function of this system Office discipline referrals (or out of class time forms) must be created or revised to collect specific pieces of data associated with disruptive behavior Schools may use an existing disciplinary data collection system or Excel. The School Wide Information System (SWIS) is offered through the OSEP Center on PBIS at a cost of $250 per year per school. Procedures are also developed to train staff and administrators on evidenced based strategies to respond to inappropriate behavior. This may be done through established curriculum or software that teaches anger management, coping strategies, choice making, etc. Examples: Ripple Effects Olweus Anti Bullying Training

3 Data Entry and Analysis Plan Teams, once established, should be meeting at least monthly for data analysis and action planning. Time should be allotted monthly for school teams, internal coaches and/or the administrator to meet with district coordinator and/or the Behavior Specialist Expectations and Rules The school wide matrix, once created, must be displayed in all parts of the building, either in whole or location specific (i.e. hallways would only display hallway rules). This may take the form of banners, posters, laminated paper. Fitting in school culture may include the use of school mascots and mottos which may be displayed Reward/Recognition System Each school establishes an age appropriate system for acknowledging students for appropriate behavior. Through the use of tickets, punch cards, points, etc. Some items may need to be created in duplicate/triplicate These are redeemed for either tangible or social rewards: i.e. school store, raffles, school clubs/activities, trips, parties Staffs are also rewarded: i.e. supplies, gift certificates, release time, special parking spot.

4 Lesson Plans for Teaching Expectations/Rules Lesson plans may be taken from other state PBIS websites or schools can choose to create their own. An established social skills curriculum can also be purchased such as Character Counts..or Second Step Lesson plans should be organized and given to all teaching staff. Implementation Plan Other items needed to change school culture may include Staff and student handbooks, with extras available for subs and new entrants Staff and student bulletin boards Publishing of PBIS related events on the school calendar Creation of district PBIS website PTA/SEPTA/school newsletters about PBIS Creation of parent brochure explaining PBIS Creation of videos to accompany social skills lessons Books to accompany lessons Classroom Systems All staff including support staff, bus drivers, office personnel, etc. must be trained on the theory and use of all features specific to working with students. Examples of training modules: The Science of Behavior Environmental Factors Affecting Behavior How to respond to appropriate as well as inappropriate behavior Establishing routines and procedures How to adapt instruction to address behavior

5 The use of opportunities to respond and formative assessment How to use all data collection procedures All trainings can be provided by either the RSE TASC Behavior Specialist, team members, internal coach or administrator Consideration can be given to trainings provided during the summer through stipend or voluntary attendance The number of days and the number of hours per day needed for trainings will depend upon contractual issues, time available before, during and/or after school and skill levels of the team and staff. Evaluation Analysis of implementation and subsequent action planning is performed through the use of the above mentioned surveys, office discipline referrals, etc. as well as through the evaluation of academic, attendance, tardy data, etc. Process and outcome data are used to determine if the systems are being implemented with consistency and fidelity PBIS data, successes and challenges should be shared with staff at each faculty meeting
