Briefly describe the primary reason the job exists at LCC. Assists students and employees with their academic research and general information needs. Provides inperson and virtual reference assistance. Teaches information literacy skills utilizing a variety of instructional delivery modes and technologies. Serves as library liaison to academic departments. Participates in collection development activities. Develops web content, tutorials and library research guides. Serves on library teams and appropriate campus committees. Librarians assist students and employees with their academic research and general information needs in support of LCC courses and academic programs. They accomplish this by: Delivering in person and virtual reference assistance Teaching academic research (information literacy skills) in 1:1 sessions and customized for individual classes utilizing a variety of instructional delivery modes and technologies Providing convenient access to credible and reliable academic information resources in a variety of formats Serving as library liaison to departments and teaching faculty Developing content for the library website, online tutorials and research guides Supporting collection development projects Supporting library goals and initiatives Participating in library teams and appropriate campus committees

Most jobs can be described using 5-10 statements (add more pages if needed). List in priority order, beginning with top priority/must get done, with approximate percent for each (e.g. 20% 1. reconciles grant fund expenditures to balance monthly budget). Other duties, as assigned, are implicit in all position descriptions. 30 % 1. Provides in person and virtual reference service for LCC students and faculty. 30 % 2. Teaches academic research (information literacy skills) in 1:1 sessions and customized for individual classes utilizing a variety of instructional delivery modes and technologies. 15 % 3. Participates in the selection of print, media and electronic academic resources to ensure that students and faculty have convenient access to credible, reliable academic information resources in a variety of formats. 10 % 4. Serves as library liaison to departments assigned. 8 % 5. Develops content for the library website, online tutorials and research guides. 7 % 6. The American Library Association (ALA) has defined the basic knowledge that all persons graduating from an (ALA) accredited master s program in library and information is position must possess. The following core competencies specify the fundamental knowledge, skills and abilities specifically required of adjunct librarian (PLLIBR) positions. American Library Association s Core Competencies of Librarianship Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information (knowledge organization) Principles involved in the organization and representation of recorded knowledge and information from creation to disposition. Information Resources (resource building) Knowledge and understanding involving concepts and methods related to the acquisition and disposition of resources, including evaluation, selection, purchasing, processing, storing and deselection. Knowledge and understanding involving concepts and methods related to the management of various collections. Reference and User Services Concepts, principles and techniques of reference and user services that provide access to relevant and accurate recorded knowledge and information to individuals of all ages and groups. Techniques used to retrieve, evaluate and synthesize information from diverse sources for use by individuals of all ages and groups. The methods used to interact successfully with individuals of all ages and groups to provide consultation, mediation and guidance in their use of recorded knowledge and information.
3 Information literacy/information competence techniques and methods, numerical literacy and statistical literacy. The principles and methods of advocacy used to reach specific audiences to promote and explain concepts and services. The principles of assessment and response to diversity in user needs and preferences. The principles related to the teaching and learning of concepts, processes and skills used in seeking, evaluating and using recorded knowledge and information.
