T develp a wrking knwledge f the vcabulary necessary fr an bjective descriptin f art bjects, media, techniques, and styles. T deepen an understanding and appreciatin f Art by explring Art, artists, art histry, thery and criticism, and fcusing attentin n the act f experiencing art. T be able t recgnize majr wrks by majr figures in art histry. T understand the evlutin f styles as it relates t Mdern prgress. Attendance: All exams will be based n in class infrmatin. It is essential that yu attend class and engage in the verarching themes and/r critical questins psted fr that day which will be the basis fr exam questins. I will pst the PwerPint presentatins n D2l in labeled flders but it is up t yu t get ntes frm a classmate if yu miss a class. I d nt lecture ntes, annuncements, r synpses f classes missed t students FOR ANY REASON. Sayre Nte that yu will abslutely need the text t cmplete hmewrk assignments each week. The text will be essential t yur success in this class.

2 Grades: There will be 200 pints ttal fr the class and a pssible 25 extra credit pints. Pints are accumulated in the fllwing 3 ways: 1. There will be three in class exams cnsisting f 33 (34 questins n Final Exam) multiple chice questins wrth 1 pint each. Exams are pen nte and pen bk thugh questins will be frm in class discussin, which in mst cases will nt be fund in the bk. Make-up Plicy: Exams may nly be made up in the case f a verifiable emergency. In all cases, I need a cpy f dcumentatin, such as a dctr s nte r a letter frm the Dean s Office t cnfirm yur situatin. In the case f last-minute emergencies, yu have ne week after the exam t cntact me and let me knw the situatin. After that pint, yu may NOT schedule a make up exam and the grade will be scred as a 0. Exam Schedule: (subject t change) 1. Exam 1: Tuesday Octber 6 th Exam 2: Tuesday Nvember 3rd Exam 3: Thursday December 17th 2. Each week yu will have a multiple chice (pen bk) hmewrk assignment (fund n D2L in the Other Tls as quizzes ) that will crrelate with that week s chapters frm the bk. Yu will cmplete this assignment befre that week s classes s that yu are prepared with the infrmatin that will be referred t in class. It is essential that yu read the chapters befrehand s that yu have the infrmatin necessary t engage in and fllw in class material. There will be 10 multiple-chice questins n D2L each week wrth 1pint each (5 questins frm each f the chapters read that week). There will be 11 multiple-chice assignments thrughut the term. If yu cmplete all 11 f them yu culd earn up t 10 extra credit pints (if yu answer every questin crrectly). Nte that the deadline fr the multiple-chice questins will clse at 2pm n Tuesday fr each week s classes. Each week s questins will cver 2 chapters in the bk. There is n way t make up these assignments. The deadline will nly be lifted in case f extreme emergency with a nte frm a dctr r the Dean f Students. If yu miss the 2pm deadline yu will receive 0 pints fr that week s assignment. 3. Pssible 15 extra credit pints (5 per receptin). Yu can acquire extra credit pints by attending the artist receptins in the Priebe and Annex galleries in the Arts and Cmmunicatins Building. Pints will ONLY be given fr attending these specific receptins affiliated with the UW art department. A list f the receptin dates and times can be fund n D2L i. Take up t 2 phts per receptin, (ne f which includes yu!) that prves that yu were at the receptin. Simply ging t the shw during the run des nt suffice. Artist receptins are cme and g as yu please. If yu can, get there twards the beginning s that yu can hear what the artist has t say

3 abut the wrk (if they are in attendance) but yu d nt have t stay the entire time. Once yu take in the wrk yu may leave at yur leisure. ii. ***If the phts d nt give adequate prf that yu were at the receptin I will nt give yu the pints s take the phts wisely! 1. The Priebe Gallery is n the main flr f the Arts and Cmmunicatins building ff f the Lbby acrss frm the Music auditrium. The Annex Gallery is n the secnd flr f the Arts and Cmmunicatin Building directly abve the Priebe Gallery in the building. Nte that an alternative methd f acquiring these extra credit pints is available if yu have significant cnflicts (such as classes r inflexible wrk schedules). r see Trina after class if yu have such a cnflict.
