1 Summary of Assessment of Learning: Graduate Learning Outcomes ACTY 6110, N 70, 56 Y Y 86.5, , 79.5 Y 90, 90 Benchmark : 75 In this first assessment, students had difficulty with both standard costing and transfer pricing. Actuals shown are respective mean scores for concepts on exam or case questions. Given the difficulty of these concepts for students with little or no prior exposure to cost accounting, more time was allocated to discussion of theory and homework assignments. Students demonstrated a good understanding of both job order costing and cost allocation. Current pedagogy of lecture and homework assignments will be continued. Service costing and activity-based costing were assessed via exam questions. On average, students met benchmark. For additional emphasis, the instructor illustrated activity-based concepts using Lego toys. The pedagogical change from abstract to concrete was well-received. Job order costing was assessed on an exam and cost allocation was assessed as part of a case. Actual mean score was 90% for each concept.

More participation in class discussions encouraged. To emphasize teamwork, students coordinate a group presentation based on individual research in related areas (e.g., aspects of outsourcing) and present to class. Students work on exercises in class in groups to emphasize team work. Students skills on individual research paper fell short of desired overall mean. Added more emphasis on developing secondary research skills and summarizing information clearly. Benchmark (80%) exceeded. Continue current pedagogy. Faculty will spend more time on spreadsheet assignments. With increased time on spreadsheet assignments, students exceeded expectations on components tested. At completion of assessment cycle, faculty met and determined that students met overall criteria. Continue current pedagogy and monitor.
