05.E. Recording Audio for Online Assessments There are times where adding audio to questions in an assessment is necessary. The process to add audio is simple. You can record yourself reading a question, a passage, or even include the answers. Recording audio is helpful for both younger students and students with special needs. To record audio within an assessment go to Assessment > Setup Assessments Or simply click on the "Assessments" button on the Teacher Dashboard. To use the record audio feature in edoctrina, you will need to either create a new assessment by selecting the "Insert +" button, or by clicking on the "Edit Pencil" button for an existing assessment.
If inserting a new assessment, please reference help document 03.A. or 03.B. If editing to update an existing assessment you will see the screen shown below: 1. After reviewing/filling in any fields with the red asterisks (*) next to them, click on the "save" button. 2. After clicking the "save" button, the screen will refresh and the "Questions tab" will appear. Click on the "Questions tab" to enter question information and record audio.
1. If you wish to create a whole new question you can begin by clicking on the "+ Add Questions" button. 2. You can edit an existing question by clicking the "Edit Pencil" or add to a blank question by clicking on the "+" button. Either of these options will take you to the Question Editor Note: If the Question editor window does not automatically open, then your browser is blocking popups. You must enable popups in your browser settings to continue! After entering the necessary information for your question you can add an audio note by clicking on the "Record Audio Note" button: When you click the "Record Audio Note" button you will be prompted to name your audio note:
Once you have named the audio note, click on the "Ok" button to begin your recording. While recording, the popup below will appear on your screen: Please note some audio recording tips: Always ensure that the area you are recording in is as quiet as possible. Wait approximately 2-3 seconds before you begin talking into your microphone. Speak slowly and clearly. Wait approximately 2-3 seconds after you finish speaking before clicking on the "Stop & Save" button. After you click on the "Stop & Save" button, scroll down to the bottom of the Question Editor and you will see your file under attachments: 1. Always play the file to ensure it has recorded correctly. 2. Assign who can hear the audio file. We recommend leaving the default as "assigned students only" 3. Specify the number of times the file can be listened to. If left blank, students can listen to the audio recording an unlimited number of times. 4. If recording did not turn out as expected delete the file and rerecord. Linking students to your audio note If the availability of your audio note is set to "Assigned students only" then you will need to assign students as necessary. Audio recordings can be accessed by students when they sign in to Progress to take an online assessment.
Navigate to the Teacher Dashboard by clicking on the Reports button on the homepage or going to Reports > Teacher Dashboard: There are two steps you need to take once you are on the Teacher Dashboard Screen: 1. Once on the dashboard, use the first row of filters to select the students you'll be assigning the online assessment to. Please note that "Course" and "Class" filters are mandatory drop downs. The "Select Students" option should be left as "all students". Use the second row of filters to select the assessment you are posting online. 2. Click on the "Assign Online Assessments button" and the Assign students box will automatically open.
1. Click the "Assign Online Assessment to" button. 2. Make sure all students are selected that need access to the online assessment. Students can be selected or deselected using the checkboxes. 3. Click the "Allow Audio" checkbox to enable audio for all students or just a few students. 4. Click "Assign". Below is a preview of what a student will see online:
