1 Welcome to our District Wide Staff Development! Today you will attend break-out sessions presented by your peers. These sessions are grounded in the beliefs of the Conroe ISD al Model and remind us that we are connected in the work we do for the students we serve. It is important as educators that we continue to connect ourselves to our research based best practices and quality resources. It is also important that we work to strengthen our connections to our peers through collaborative planning, PLCs and sharing ideas in data reviews. Most importantly, we must continue our work in connecting our students to quality learning opportunities through engaging, well managed classrooms. We may come from different backgrounds, experiences, August 8 th 2018 and learning, but to provide the best for ALL of our students, we come together to be ConroeISD: Connected. Many thanks to McCullough Junior High administration and staff for their cooperation and support in making this staff development day a huge success. We could have not done this without a great team effort!

The focus will be on the ways in which teachers can use primary source documents to teach history. In this session, we will examine primary sources that illustrate how Jim Crow segregation, voting restrictions, and racial violence were employed to enforce white supremacy. This session will demonstrate how the American Revolution is best understood in a context that emphasizes its global nature. Our national narrative often centers on the exceptionalist and isolationist elements of the conflict, which overlook how the episode was crucial for the British, French, and Spanish empires. Indeed, the Revolution can only be fully comprehended when seen as a new chapter in a long continuum of imperial battles over the North American land. This session will look at how the WWII and Holocaust periods can be made more real and memorable to students through first-person testimony, diary, and memoir--and where to get those sources. A208 Sons of the Republic of Texas Ron McAnear Period dress. Stories from Texas Republic living, battles, heroes, westward migration.
