We call our teachers by their first names to break down barriers that traditionally exist. Teachers go above and beyond every single day to make sure that each one of us reaches our full potential. In the past 5 years I have had many varied opportunities to experience the wider world. Some that stand out are my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, my week in Mumbai speaking at an international Teach for All conference and my work experience at Transport for London. Each of these has served to help me shape the kind of person I want to be, both now and in the future. It is exciting being part of a school that is growing each year. As a result of our growth we always need to hire new teachers. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Director of Maths Reports to: Start date: Salary: Contract type: Full-time Academy Leadership Team January 2018 /ASAP Contract term: Permanent The Role Reach Leadership Scale We are seeking a committed and thoughtful leader to build on the progress made in the Maths department over the school s first five years. This year 98% of our year 11s gained a Grade 4+ in their maths GCSE. Over 25% gained a Grade 8+. We are a school that recognises the centrality of Maths to our pupils achievement across the curriculum and have fostered an environment with high levels of attainment and an excellent attitude to the subject across the board. We are looking for leader to oversee our pupils going through A-level and adjusting course lower down the school as necessary. The successful candidate will set the vision and direction for the department and be responsible for ensuring that our curriculum is aligned to the challenges that our pupils face at A-level and beyond They will be a committed teacher with leadership experience and a track record of leading pupils to achieve great results. They will share the school s vision and the belief that all young people can achieve at high levels. There will be significant career progression available for the successful candidate, as well as access to senior staff and the opportunity to contribute to strategic decision-making. Key responsibilities Other Set vision and direction for Maths in the school, ensuring that there is clear and achievable progression through the phases; Design and oversee a curriculum that blends rigour with high levels of pupil engagement and effectively builds the skills and knowledge so that pupils are able to flourish at A-level and access degrees in Maths-related subjects; Be responsible for the progress of pupils across the Secondary phases, overseeing assessment and monitoring progress, putting in place additional support where it is needed; Act as a critical friend and thought-partner to Primary colleagues in the design and delivery of the Maths Mastery curriculum; Line manage, coach and develop Maths teachers, ensuring that they have the knowledge and skiills to deliver highly effective lessons; Ensure that own teaching and learning is highly effective and act as a model of good practice. ; Support the Academy Leadership Team to set vision and direction for the Secondary phase in line with Academy vision; Align with and uphold the Academy vision, standards of behavior, discipline and exclusion policy; Deal effectively and sensitively with child protection issues. Undertake other various responsibilities as directed by the Academy Leadership Team; and Undertake the main professional duties of a teacher as set out in the Reach Academy pay and conditions of service document.

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications Qualified to degree level and above; Qualified to teach and work in the UK. Experience Experience of working with young people; and Evidence of continually improving the outcomes of pupils. 5 MATHS As a maths teacher at Reach Academy you will be part of an ambitious, supportive and exciting department. The students at Reach Academy are keen mathematicians and stretch themselves through challenging equations and problem-solving. Students are able to make perceptive links between topics and application to everyday life. Students problem-solve independently and in teams, displaying resilience in the face of challenge and pride the face of success. We explore innovative practice including new ways of authentically co-creating learning experiences with the students. CURRICULUM STRUCTURE MASTERY Students have 6 hours per week in Y7, Y8 and Y9. Students have 2 hour lessons to ensure extended periods of problem-solving. Students have multiple opportunities to develop, practice and apply new skills and concepts, based on a concretepictorial-abstract model. THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT Students study topics in depth over an extended period of time. Y7 study topics for 6 weeks, introducing application opportunities concurrently to embed core concepts. Rigorous tracking allows teachers to identify and close gaps extremely quickly. INNOVATIVE PRACTICE Weekly pre and post-learning quizzes enable staff to plan according to actual rather than presumed learning gaps. As a result lessons are always pupils centred and purposeful. Our curriculum is rigorously backwards planned from an A* grade at A Level. Unique tracking systems that are frequently moderated, ensure that marking is concise and clear, allowing pupils to know their next steps. Timetable Rockstars create excitement, enthusiasm and joy around the learning of maths and provide necessary foundations for Number.

11 Safer recruitment process Reach Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Short listing Short listing will occur after 16th October 2017 with interviews taking place following that date. Interview Candidates will be subject to an in-depth, in-person interview and assessment, along with a telephone interview in some circumstances. At each stage of the process candidates will be asked to address any discrepancies, anomalies or gaps in their application form or arising from information gained at the previous stage of the recruitment process. Reference checking References from the previous and current employers will be taken up for shortlisted candidates, possibly before interview, and where necessary employers may be contacted to gather further information or address any discrepancies, anomalies or gaps in the reference provided. Probation All new staff will be subject to a probation period (which may, in certain circumstances, be extended by up to 10 weeks). The probation period is a trial period, to enable the assessment of an employee s suitability for the job for which they have been employed. It provides Reach Academy with the opportunity to monitor and review the performance of new staff in relation to various areas, but also in terms of their commitment to safeguarding and relationships with pupils.
