Chapter 1 Introduction Description of the ISTEP+ Program The purpose of the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+) program is to measure student achievement in the subject areas of Mathematics, English/Language Arts (ELA), Science, and Social Studies. ISTEP+ reports student achievement levels according to the Indiana Academic Standards that were adopted by the Indiana State Board of Education (for a list of these standards by grade level, refer to the following: Part 1 and Part 2 of the ISTEP+ assessment are used to measure these standards, and they are both required components of the ISTEP+ program. Part 1 of the ISTEP+ assessment will be administered in online or paper-and-pencil formats for all content areas. Corporation Test Coordinators submitted preferred delivery options during mode selection, which was completed in December. Please contact your Test Coordinator to determine which format your students will use. Part 2 of the ISTEP+ assessment will be administered later this spring and will be in an online format for all content areas, except for schools approved by the IDOE to test in a paper-and-pencil format. Part 2 online versus paper-and-pencil decisions were made after the Statewide Readiness Test, which occurred in January. How This Manual Is Organized This manual contains the information you need to administer Part 1 of the ISTEP+ assessment in both the online and paper-and-pencil formats. NOTE: For Grade 10 only, practice test instructions are not included in the Examiner s Manual. The practice test instructions can be found in the Practice Test Manual for ISTEP+ Part 1 and Part 2 Assessment: Grade 10. You will receive separate grade-level Examiner s Manuals specific to Part 2 of the ISTEP+ assessment with the Part 2 materials later this spring. This megaphone symbol indicates that text applies to the Text-to-Speech accommodation. This calculator symbol indicates that students may use a calculator to solve problems in this section of the Mathematics test. This crossed out calculator symbol indicates that students may NOT use a calculator to solve problems in this section of the Mathematics test. 2 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

Chapter 2 Preparing for Assessments What You Need to Know Before Administering the Assessments Please read all of the directions in Chapter 2 of this manual before administering the assessments. The material in this manual that is to be read aloud to the students is printed in boldface boxes. All other information is for the Examiner and should not be read to the students. To ensure reliable results, the specific directions for administering the test sections should be followed exactly. Preparing for Assessments The test administration order may be determined locally by content area. Either Mathematics OR English/Language Arts must be administered first, followed by the other content area (Mathematics or English/Language Arts) second. Science is administered third. All sections within a content area must be administered in order. A content area must be administered completely prior to giving the test for the next content area. (One exception: conducting make-up tests if a student has been absent.) Testing times are the same for both online and paper-and-pencil. Testing times are noted in Chapter 5 of this manual. Preparation of the Students It is important that students anticipate the ISTEP+ assessments with interest rather than with anxiety. They should realize that they are taking an achievement test that will yield information about skills they should have already learned. Prepare students for testing and establish a relaxed atmosphere. Point out that the questions intentionally cover a range of difficulty. Use of Proctors State law requires that the ISTEP+ assessments be administered by certificated personnel. Proctors are not certificated personnel and, therefore, may not administer the test sessions. Proctors may, however, assist the Examiner before, during, and after the test administration. Neither parents nor students are permitted to serve as test Examiners or Proctors. The number of Proctors needed for a testing period depends on the grade tested and the level of the students test-taking experience. As a general rule, one Proctor for every 15 students is recommended. Proctors should be familiar with administration procedures before the first testing period. EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10 3

Before Testing Preparing for Assessments Proctors should help prepare the room for testing and assist in distributing applicable test materials. For online testing, Proctors should ensure that each device used for testing is open to the TestNav Indiana Sign In screen. For paper-and-pencil testing, Proctors should assist the Examiner in completing the Student Demographic Page if the student barcode label is not available; prepare the sheets of punchout tools for distribution to the students before the Mathematics tests; and confirm student demographic information is correct in PearsonAccess next. Proctors should be introduced to the students for whom they will be responsible during the testing period. During Testing Proctors may only assist with the mechanics of taking the test. No additional assistance may be given. Proctors should notify the Examiner if a student is having difficulty understanding the task of marking answer choices or finding the correct question. Proctors should adhere to the following guidelines: Make certain that each student is working in the correct test section. Prevent talking or sharing of answers. Do not suggest the correct answer to the students. (If a student asks, Is this right? the Proctor should give a neutral response such as Decide what you think is correct and then go on. ) Proctors should not assist students with the spelling of words. Inform the Examiner if any unusual problems arise. Allow adequate time for giving appropriate assistance to all of the students who need it. Make certain that students stop working when they finish a test section and that they do not go on to the next test section or back to a previous test section. After Testing As applicable, Proctors should assist students in exiting the online test session and/or assist the Examiner in collecting test materials, such as the student testing tickets and any used scratch paper. It is important that students sign out of TestNav completely when they complete their assessment. Testing Cautions Refer to the Indiana Assessment Program Manual, posted on the IDOE website, for any questions regarding ethical test preparation or practices. 1. Coaching. Make sure that all of the students understand the directions for taking the test. The Examiner or the Proctors may assist the students with mechanical aspects, 4 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

such as helping the students find the correct place in a test section. However, no one should provide assistance that will inadvertently indicate an answer; this is a test, not an instructional activity. Do not indicate the correct response to any question. NOTE: It is NEVER appropriate to coach students by indicating in any way (e.g., facial expressions, gestures, or the use of body language) that an answer choice is correct or incorrect, should be reconsidered, or should be checked. 2. Guessing. Encourage students to attempt all questions, even those they find difficult. 3. Irregularities During Testing. Any test administration may be marred by unforeseen irregularities that, in a few cases, can result in individual or group performance that is not valid. Make a note of any irregularities involving individual students, such as experiencing device problems, experiencing a sudden illness, having to leave the room, or becoming unduly disturbed by the testing situation. Note any unusual interruptions or distractions that affect the entire group. Record the time the interruption occurs. Report all irregularities affecting individual and group performance to your Test Coordinator. These reports will be useful when interpreting test results. If the test needs to be invalidated, discuss this matter with your Test Coordinator. Preparing for Assessments Scheduling the Assessment Testing should be planned to help all of the students do their best. Here are some points to remember: Avoid testing just after the students have had strenuous physical activity. Schedule testing so that there will be sufficient time to complete the test sections. Administer the test sections in the order in which they appear on the timing schedule within a content area as shown in the tables at the beginning of each grade-specific section of this manual. Remember that students always complete the test sections in chronological order within the content area, except when a student is absent for a test section. When a student who was absent for a section (e.g., Section 1) logs back in with the class for the next test section (e.g., Section 2), he or she will take the same test section as the rest of the class. A set section start is required in this situation for the student to test online in the same section as the rest of the class. A make-up time must be scheduled to administer the test section the student missed. Schedule breaks so that a comfortable pace and a relaxed atmosphere are maintained. Be sensitive to the fatigue level and attention span of the students. Balance your sense of their attention span against your knowledge of the length and difficulty of the various test sections, and alter the schedule as necessary within the prescribed guidelines for test scheduling. Eliminate distractions, such as bells, telephones, or announcements over the publicaddress system. Post a Do Not Disturb sign on the door of the testing room. EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10 5

Timing the Assessment Preparing for Assessments Accurately timing test sections is important to ensure reliability of the results. The time limits give students the opportunity to demonstrate the effective range of their abilities, and most students will finish within the time specified. The time limits on some parts may mean that some students will not complete all the questions. The tables at the beginning of each grade section of this manual show the time limits for the individual test sections. Please note that time limits are for actual working time. The instruction times are recommended times and may be adjusted as necessary. For each online section, the testing time is the same as the testing time for the corresponding paperand-pencil section; however, additional time is needed for the student to log in to the online test. Begin timing only when you are certain that all of the students understand what to do. It is the responsibility of the Test Examiner and Proctor to ensure that students do not begin working on a test section until instructed to do so. Enter the starting time in the appropriate space(s) provided in this manual. Refer to the image below for an example. Give the students xx minutes to complete this test section. Make sure that the students are on the correct page/screen. Record the starting time: Add XX minutes: + XX Record the stopping time: Calculate the time to stop the testing activity based on the actual starting time. Enter the stopping time in the appropriate space(s) as well. Signal to the students when they should begin testing and tell them at that time when the test section will be over. Write the stopping time on the board. Check to make sure students continue to work according to the instructions within the test section and that they stop working when the End of Section screen appears in the online test, or when they reach the Stop sign in the paper assessment books. Allow students to go back over any questions within a timed section before time is called. You may call time if all of the students have completed a test section before the specified working time has elapsed. For online testing, once all questions are reviewed and the students are ready to submit their tests, they should select Submit or, at the end of the final section of the test, Submit Final Answers. Test Security Maintaining the security of all ISTEP+ test materials is crucial to obtaining valid and reliable test results. Therefore, all test materials (including student testing tickets and seal codes) must be kept in locked storage except when appropriate school staff members are reviewing the Examiner s Manual in preparation for administering the assessments and during the 6 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

actual test administration. All user account information must also be maintained as secure information. Access to secure materials must be restricted to authorized individuals only (e.g., Test Examiners and Test Coordinators). It is the direct responsibility of all individuals who administer the test to follow these security procedures. The ISTEP+ testing materials are secure materials. Do not photocopy or duplicate any portion of the assessment at any time. Assessment books, when not in use, must be kept in a locked room or cabinet to prevent unauthorized access. School personnel responsible for ISTEP+ testing must ensure that test materials are secure at all times. Test security measures and ethical testing practices are fully discussed in the Indiana Assessment Program Manual for the current school year. Preparing for Assessments Special Accommodations For students requiring physical testing accommodations, such as Text-to-Speech, computergenerated responses, use of a read aloud script, scribe, Large Print, and Braille, the appropriate settings must be selected in the Accommodations section of the Manage Student Tests task in PearsonAccess next. The student s up-to-date accommodations report must be consulted so that the testing accommodations can be set up in accordance with the student s Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, or ILP (EL Plan). For paper-and-pencil testing, read aloud scripts are available, and teachers are required to use them with students who have an IEP that allows for such an accommodation. Students who need to type their responses during a paper-and-pencil test administration should be set up to do online testing. If this is not possible, then the computer-generated response (CGR) directions need to be followed. The School or Corporation Test Coordinator should provide each Test Examiner with a printed copy of the Session Student Roster, which indicates the appropriate accommodations for each student in a session. Examiners should check their Session Student Rosters prior to testing to verify that the correct accommodations, including the calculator accommodation, have been assigned. If accommodations have not been properly assigned, contact your Test Coordinator. See Appendix A for specific special accommodations guidance for computer-generated responses, Large Print, Braille, and the use of a scribe. Calculator Online Accommodation New in Spring 2018, Calculator accommodations reported through the December 4 22 DOE-TL collection will be assigned in the Personal Needs Profile (PNP) section in PearsonAccess next. This new functionality eliminates the need for a Calculator Form Group Type. When implemented for the Spring 2018 ISTEP+ test administrations, students with or without Text-to-Speech accommodations and Calculator accommodations can be tested in the same session, providing greater flexibility for session planning and logistics. Test EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10 7

Preparing for Assessments Coordinators must manually update in PearsonAccess next any student information not reported via the DOE-TL collection. Text-to-Speech Online Accommodation Students who require a Text-to-Speech accommodation will use the Text-to-Speech tool, which reads aloud text on the screen. Text-to-Speech must be set up in a student s profile prior to administering the online test. This will allow students time to practice with the tool before actual testing. If a Text-to-Speech accommodation was included in the TL submission, the student s profile will already be set up. If the Text-to-Speech accommodation was not included in the school or corporation s DOE-TL submission, or if the student must be added manually, the Test Coordinator must select the Text To Speech checkbox under Accommodations on the Manage Student Tests screen in PearsonAccess next. After the student s profile has been configured to allow the Text-to-Speech accommodation, the student logs in just as other students do. The student should have the necessary hardware, such as earphones and a sound card, to begin. Be sure that the volume at the student workstation is not muted. The restrictions on which parts of the test can be read aloud and which cannot are built into the test. To hear the text read aloud, the student can select the play or megaphone icon. Allow students with this accommodation to practice with the Text-to-Speech tool as long as necessary to become comfortable using the tool. Practice can be done using the appropriate practice test in the Training site. Zoom Tool Students with visual impairments will use pinch/zoom with ipad and touch screen devices and browser zoom (Ctrl +/-) with desktop devices for enlarging the text. Students can practice using these tools in the practice tests. 8 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

Chapter 3 Online Assessments Assessment Materials for Online Sessions Test materials required for each student: Online Assessment Students will type their responses directly into response boxes or mark their responses using TestNav, the online test delivery platform, on their devices. 16 Student Testing Tickets Online Assessments Student testing tickets are used for each content area s test session of the online assessments. Once test session options have been selected and students have been assigned to a content area s test session, student testing tickets can be printed through your browser. Please note that a student should be assigned to only one online test session for each content area in Part 1. There may be multiple test sections in a single test session. The student testing ticket contains the sign in information for a particular student, including the student s Username and the unique Password for the specific ISTEP+ content area s test session. The same Username and Password are used each time a student signs into that content area s test session. Student testing tickets must be handled in a secure manner and returned to the School Test Coordinator immediately after each day of testing is completed. Seal Codes A seal code is a unique four-digit number used to allow students to access each section of the online assessment. Each sealed section requires a different seal code. A specific seal code will only work for its designated section. Seal codes will be provided in PearsonAccess next, and all of the students in a test section will use the same seal code. Seal codes are provided on a separate seal code report that the School Test Coordinator (STC) prints out prior to the test. Students should NOT be given seal codes until indicated in the script. Seal codes must be handled securely and returned to the School Test Coordinator immediately after each day of testing is completed. Please note that a section must be started and unlocked or resumed in PearsonAccess next before a student can access it with the seal code. Session Rosters A Session Roster is a list of all of the students scheduled in a test session. The Session Roster should be used to confirm students have been assigned to the correct test session and provides important student testing status information; for example, that the student is ready to test, is actively testing, has resumed testing, or has completed the test. Session Rosters must be handled in a secure manner and returned to the School Test Coordinator immediately after each test session is completed. To view the Session Roster, sign in to PearsonAccess next, go to Reports and select Operational Reports, then select Online Testing from the Report Categories and select Session Roster. Note that you can also access a Session Student Roster on the Students in Session page under the Resources dropdown. 12 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

Preparation by the Examiner As the Examiner, you should become thoroughly familiar with the testing schedule and the directions for administration before administering a test session. Study the information and share it with Proctors or other individuals who will be helping you administer the test sessions. It is important to note that neither parents nor students are permitted to serve as Test Examiners or Proctors. The following guidelines and procedures are suggestions to help you in planning and administering the online assessment. Online Assessments Test Examiners must familiarize themselves with set up and use of all test devices in the information located at Before Online Testing Review this manual. Refer to the Indiana Online Testing Guide at pearsonaccessnext.com/resources-training for complete online testing instructions. Review each test section within this Examiner s Manual and become familiar with the administration procedures. Verify that the student testing tickets and seal codes have been printed (always store test tickets and seal codes in a secure location). Review the Session Roster in PearsonAccess next. Notify your School Test Coordinator of changes to students being tested. (The School Test Coordinator handles all of the student management, e.g., adding a student, adding accommodations, etc.) Administer the ISTEP+ Online Practice Test. This will give students an opportunity to sign in and out of the online system, work with tools, and preview question types. Verify that accommodations have been assigned for accommodated students by reviewing the Accessibility Features and Accommodation report. NOTE: If a student moves out of his or her school during the testing window, contact your School Test Coordinator within 24 hours for guidance. During Online Testing Be sure each student has a pencil and scratch paper. Have the student testing tickets and seal codes available. Make sure there are no cell phones or other personal electronic or recording devices in the testing room. Post the No Personal Electronic Devices sign in the testing room. This applies to both students and adults. (The only exception to the cell phone policy for adults is if this is the school s only means of communication regarding an urgent matter.) Distribute student testing tickets to students. EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10 13

Online Assessments When instructed to do so, read the test directions aloud from this manual and administer the test. Allow time for questions before beginning the testing period. Make sure that the students understand what they are to do before beginning. Stop testing if you find that a student has not been assigned the appropriate accommodation(s) and contact your STC or CTC immediately. Be sure to document the time that testing was stopped. Monitor and manage student tests using the Students in Sessions screen. Lock or unlock tests, as needed. Resume tests, as needed. Monitor student progress. Set section start for any student who missed a previous section of the test and is taking test sessions out of order. Observe the time limits for testing as shown at the beginning of the assessment directions of this Examiner s Manual. Encourage students to utilize the entire testing time, to review their answers within the current test section only, and to put forth their best effort. You may call time if all of the students have completed a test section before the specified working time has elapsed. After Online Testing Confirm all students have completed their testing. Collect all student testing tickets. Return student test tickets, seal codes, and Session Rosters to your School Test Coordinator for secure storage or destruction. Remove/Erase any displayed seal codes. Communicate with your School or Corporation Test Coordinator regarding any tests that need to be invalidated or marked complete. Support During Testing During testing, an Examiner should not attempt to resolve technology issues if it is disruptive to students. The Examiner must have a way to contact the School Test Coordinator or Technology Coordinator without leaving the room unattended. If a student has difficulty signing in or gets kicked out of his or her test more than once, do not have the student continue to attempt to sign in until the issue is diagnosed and resolved. Additional troubleshooting information is available on the TestNav troubleshooting page located at If school personnel continue to have difficulty, they may contact district personnel, or they may contact Pearson Customer Support at or by completing the support form at pearsonaccessnext.com/ref/w.html?p=indiana. 14 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

Error Messages Error messages may appear during online testing (a complete list of error codes and instructions for resolution can be found on the Indiana Resource Center s Technology page). Follow the directions provided on the screen to resolve the error. If you need technical assistance, contact your School or Corporation Test Coordinator or the Pearson Help Desk at Please note that the test time specified may be adjusted if testing irregularities, such as device problems, occur during the test. Testing irregularities that affect the test time for specific students or the entire group can be documented in a chart such as the one on the inside front cover of this manual. 20 Paper-and-Pencil Assessments Chapter 4 Paper-and-Pencil Assessments What You Need to Know Before Administering the Paper-and-Pencil Assessments Please read all of the directions in this chapter of the manual before administering the paper-and-pencil assessment. Before the test sections begin, the School or Corporation Test Coordinator should apply the personalized Student Barcode Label to the front covers of the Part 1 assessment books in the label space provided. For students who do not have a personalized Student Barcode Label, the School or Corporation Test Coordinator needs to fill in the student demographic information completely, with the exception of the student name in Box 1, prior to the day of testing. Refer to the Completing the Student Demographic Page section of this manual. Make sure students use only No. 2 pencils with erasers when taking this assessment. Pens are not allowed. NOTE: Every attempt has been made to provide sufficient space for student responses. It is critical that students respond within these designated spaces and/or answer lines. Any portions of a student response that falls outside of the response box may not be scored. Assessment Materials for the Paper-and-Pencil Sessions Test materials required for each student: Part 1 Assessment Book The Part 1 Assessment Books consist of separate assessment books for Mathematics, English/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies (for those schools electing to test all content areas in paper-and-pencil mode). Students will write all responses directly in their assessment books. Ensure that you distribute the correct book to the student listed on the personalized Student Barcode Label. 22 Paper-and-Pencil Assessments Before Paper-and-Pencil Testing Review this manual. Confirm paper-and-pencil assessment dates, times, and locations, and verify information on the paper Student Roster found in your testing materials. Review each test section and become familiar with the administration procedures. Before testing begins, the CTC/STC should affix the student barcode label or fill in the Student Demographic Page accurately on the cover of the assessment booklet for each student who does not have a personalized student barcode label. Have all test materials assembled for efficient distribution. Notify your Test Coordinator of changes to students being tested. (The Test Coordinator handles all of the student management, e.g., adding a student, adding accommodations, etc.) Confirm that Examiners and Proctors are aware of students receiving accommodations (e.g., extended time) as stated in their IEPs, Section 504 Plans, or ILPs (EL Plans). Verify that accommodations have been properly assigned for accommodated students. NOTE: If a student moves out of his or her school during the testing window, contact your School Test Coordinator within 24 hours for guidance. During Paper-and-Pencil Testing Be sure each student uses the same assessment book for all test sections in a content area. If a student uses more than one assessment book in a given content area, he or she may not receive credit for all test sections. Make sure students write their own names in Box 1 on the front covers of their assessment books. Follow the specific directions for administering each test section. Be precise. Allow time for questions before beginning the testing period. Make sure that the students understand what they are to do before beginning. Make sure there are no cell phones in the testing room. Post the No Personal Electronic Devices sign in the testing area. This applies to both students and adults. (The only exception to the cell phone policy for adults is if this is the school s only means of communication regarding an urgent matter.) Monitor to be sure students are writing their answers in the proper places in their assessment books. Make sure that students use only a No. 2 pencil with an eraser when writing their answers to the test questions. Only responses written with a No. 2 pencil will be scored. Use of mechanical pencils is not recommended. It is not possible to guarantee that answers marked with a mechanical pencil will be scanned/scored properly. 18 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

Have scratch paper available for any student who requests it. Observe the time limits for testing as shown in each content-specific section of this Examiner s Manual. Encourage students to utilize the entire testing time, to review their answers within the current test section only, and to put forth their best effort. You may call time if all of the students have completed a test section before the specified working time has elapsed. Paper-and-Pencil Assessments After Paper-and-Pencil Testing Collect all test materials individually from each student. Do not allow students to pass their materials up to the front of the rows for the first student in the row to hand in. Do not dismiss students from the testing room until all test materials have been collected and counts verified. Collect and turn in all scratch paper to the School Test Coordinator for secure destruction. Notify the School Test Coordinator when testing is complete. Securely return all testing materials to the School Test Coordinator. Use of Highlighters Use of highlighters is not recommended but is allowed for students taking the ISTEP+ assessment. Liquid ink on a scannable sheet poses a risk. It is not possible to guarantee that marks made with a highlighter will not affect the scanning/scoring process. To minimize the potential interference of highlighter ink in the scanning process, students should be instructed to adhere to the recommended guidelines below. Highlight only key words and phrases in the passages and test questions. Do not highlight answer choices. Do not highlight track marks, litho codes, skunk lines, barcodes, preslugged bubbles, or any other carbon black printing. Do not highlight pencil marks of any kind, whether bubbles or handwriting. Use only highlighters from the following list. These highlighters were tested on Pearson documents and found to cause minimal problems in scanning. 24 Paper-and-Pencil Assessments Completing the Student Demographic Page The student demographic page is located on the front cover of each Part 1 standard edition assessment book. Prior to testing, the School or Corporation Test Coordinator should follow the directions for completing the student demographic page for each student, as outlined in the ISTEP+ Test Coordinator Manual. If a new student enrolls in your school after the School or Corporation Test Coordinator has completed the student demographic page for other students, examiners should follow these directions: 1. Instruct the new student to write his or her name next to Student Name (Box 1) on the front cover of his or her test book. 2. Proceed with test administration for all students. 3. Upon completion of testing, inform the School or Corporation Test Coordinator of the new student test book. The School/ Corporation Test Coordinator must use the directions in the ISTEP+ Test Coordinator Manual to complete the remainder of the demographic information page for the student before shipping the test book to Pearson for scoring. 20 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

Computer-Generated Response Directions The students will need to use the CGR template or another similarly formatted document to have students type their responses to the assessment question(s) or transcribe students responses to the template. A CGR template has been created to help ensure your student s responses and data are clearly identified for processing. You may download the CGR template from the Indiana ISTEP+ and IREAD-3 Resource Center at: Follow the directions below: STEP 1 The following information must be at the top of every CGR page to ensure that the student s responses are captured and scored accurately: Student Name Student Test Number (STN) Grade Subject Corporation ID School ID Lithocode Number (found on the bottom of the inside front cover of each student assessment book) Item Number Count the total number of pages and enter Page of at the bottom of each CGR page. STEP 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 Do not include more than one CGR item response on a page. You may use more than one page per item if necessary. You may place individual parts (Part A, Part B, etc.) of an item m on one page as long as they are clearly identified. Enter the item number clearly and completely. Ensure all CGR sheets are printed on white paper only. Remember to make copies of all CGR sheets for your records and store them in a secure location. Apply the Student Barcode Label to the appropriate grade and subject assessment book. 78 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10

STEP 5 STEP 6 STEP 7 Ensure the Computer-Generated Response(s) bubble on the standard edition assessment book s Student Demographic Page is bubbled with Y for Part 1 of the ISTEP+ assessment. If Y is bubbled in error, erase completely and bubble N. Place all CGR sheets inside the front cover of the student s assessment book. Ensure all CGR sheets are included. Stack these assessment books in a group by grade and subject. Notify your School Test Coordinator of any student that has computer-generated responses to make sure the document is returned correctly for scoring. Return all your materials to your School or Corporation Test Coordinator. Large Print Students using the Large Print edition of the assessment must record their responses only in the Large Print Part 1 Assessment Books. Do not transfer ISTEP+ Part 1 student responses to a standard edition assessment book. Please note that for Large Print Mathematics items requiring the use of a punchout ruler, the diagrams or figures to be measured are not enlarged; only the text is enlarged for these items. Students may use the rulers that they are accustomed to using in the classroom or that are designed specifically for Large Print use. Do not enlarge the manipulatives provided with the test materials as that will result in inaccurate measurements. Braille Do NOT transfer Braille student responses to the Part 1 Assessment Books. Pearson will score the Part 1 Assessment Book student responses from one of the following: Braille transcription (provided by a Pearson vendor) Computer-generated pages (if the school has Braille equipment) Please contact your Test Coordinator if you have any questions regarding the administration of the ISTEP+ Spring 2018 Braille Edition. Scribe When a student s IEP or Section 504 Plan indicates that responses are to be scribed, the scribe must write/type exactly what the student dictates, without adding any capitalization or punctuation unless directed by the student. No presumption is made about whether a pause is indicative of the use of a comma, a period, or any other punctuation. When the student has finished dictating, the written text is presented for the student to review and add capitalization and punctuation if indicated. If writing a response, the scribe must record responses in the student s assessment book using only a No. 2 pencil. Each scribed response should begin with the word scribe in the response area for paper-and-pencil or online assessments. If a student does not respond or test in a given section, do not write scribe in that section; just leave it blank. Notify your School Test Coordinator of any student that has scribed responses to make sure the document is returned correctly for scoring. EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10 79

A one-on-one test administration should always be used when a scribe is needed. Using a scribe in a regular classroom setting would be disruptive to the other students in the room since the student using a scribe needs to respond out loud. Prior to testing, the scribe should attempt to gather information regarding the student s level of vocabulary and spelling abilities from those who are familiar with the student s academic background. Once this information is obtained, the scribe should ask the student to spell out loud any word he or she thinks is not within the range of the student s vocabulary or spelling abilities. It is important to note that this procedure serves to protect the student from a scribe who is a poor speller. A scribe should never read the reading comprehension portion of the test to a student, nor should he or she coach a student or hint to a student the meaning or spelling of a word. When a student s IEP or Section 504 plan indicates that responses are to be scribed, you must follow these procedures to prepare materials for scoring. For students with scribed responses, do the following: STEP 1 NOTE: Step 1 must be completed by the School or Corporation Coordinator. Confirm the student has an IEP or Section 504 plan indicated in PearsonAccess next. If the IEP or Section 504 plan is not indicated, refer to the Indiana Online Testing Guide in the Indiana ISTEP+ and IREAD-3 Resource Center at STEP 2 Review the appendix Accessibility and Accommodations Guidance in the Indiana Assessment Program Manual for the current year. STEP 3 For each scribed response, first write the word scribe in the response area in the Part 1 Assessment Book. Then, following the word scribe, write the student s response. The word scribe and the student s response must be entered using a No. 2 pencil only. If a student does not respond or test in a given section, do not write scribe in that section; just leave it blank. For more information regarding the Special Accommodations in testing, refer to the Indiana Assessment Program Manual or contact your Test Coordinator. 80 EXAMINER S MANUAL FOR ISTEP+ PART 1 ASSESSMENT: GRADE 10
