3 Executive Summary Introduction Every school has its own story to tell. The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student learning. The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. 4 Executive Summary Description of the School Describe the school's size, community/communities, location, and changes it has experienced in the last three years. Include demographic information about the students, staff, and community at large. What unique features and challenges are associated with the community/communities the school serves? The Bullitt County ATC is located in Shepherdsville, Kentucky in Bullitt County. We are in a rural area of Kentucky, located 15 minutes from Louisville, Kentucky. There are 160 students which attend the Bullitt County ATC and these students come from three area schools; Bullitt Central, Bullitt East and North Bullitt. The community has many small and large businesses, with the large businesses being located by Interstate 65 to help with location and distribution. The major businesses in the community are warehousing businesses which specialize in distribution of products. The has been some change in the last few years, the population of the county is continuing to grow and new businesses are coming in to take advantage of the location to the Interstate and the UPS Hub in Louisville. The county is becoming more diverse, but the diversity of the county is very low, the county is predominately white. The staff at the school has changed considerably in the last three years, we have added two new programs and dropped an older outdated program. With the addition of the new programs, we have added five new teachers over the past three years. The staff is very inexperienced and is in the process of learning how to properly deliver instruction to students. DRAFT Page 2

VISION - With high expectations and strong partnerships, Kentucky Tech - Bullitt County will actively engage all students in the mastery of academic and technical skills needed to be ready for college and a career. WE BELIEVE - in active engagement, high expectations, real-world applications, equal opportunity and helping students learn skills and standards for programs. We strive to make sure all students understand concepts in each classes and program. We use the Kentucky Tech task lists, as well as the KOSSA task lists, to make sure students are prepared for certification tests and also prepared to take on any challenge after high school in the work force. We have improved our national certification test scores and the number of students who received national certifications in the last three years. In 2011 students were awarded 55 National Certifications, in 2014 students were awarded 105 National Certifications. We have improved our KOSSA pass percentage tests scores in the last three years from 23% in 2011 to 46% in We have increased the number of preparatory students from 76 in 2011 to 118 in We are looking to improve upon our preparatory status rate and percentage rate, we are looking to improve our KOSSA pass percentage rate, and also looking to improve our program completion rate. The Bullitt County ATC is working with the Bullitt County Public Schools in order to make sure all students are College or Ready as a graduation requirement starting with the graduating class of Because of this requirement, some of our school scores will drop. We will not be testing as many students for Work Keys starting this school year which will affect our Work Keys pass rate, but also may affect our Ready number of students for the school year. We strive to maintain up-to-date programs in the ATC, and we are currently working with Unions in Louisville to help place students into apprenticeships and well paying jobs during their senior year or after graduation.
