5 What are the aims of the homework policy? 1- To ensure that teachers, students and parents have a clear understanding regarding expectations of homework. 2- To create a supportive and co-operative partnership between parents and teachers in relation to children s learning, as detailed in the Home-School Agreement. 3- To ensure constant approach of homework throughout the year the year. 4- To ensure that teachers, students and parents are fully aware with the role they play regarding homework. Why Homework is important? We appreciate the importance of home and school links and the need for parents and teachers to work together to ensure a good education for the children. It is for this reason that we set homework in school from a fairly young age, although the homework set will vary according to the age and ability of the child. To allow parents to gain an understanding of what students are learning at school.

6 To allow students to progress towards becoming more independence learners. Types of Homework at Notion: - Reading Books - Reading Comprehension - Learning Spellings - Finding Out Information (Inquiry Activities) - Numeracy tasks ( Worksheets/ IXL) - Written Assignment - Preparing Oral presentations What is the role of the school? To give the parents and students To provide a clear policy regarding homework. To ensure that this policy is fully and consistent followed. To provide support to students regarding the homework task. What is the role of the Teachers?

7 To plan and set a program of homework that is appropriate to the needs of the students. To provide a differentiated tasks according to the students learning styles and academic level. To give a feedback about homework to students. Give full and comprehensive instructions including marking criteria What is the role of the parents? To ensure that the students complete the task and hand it on time. To facilitate the student task at home. To provide a strong internet connection, laptop and facilitate the printing process if needed. To provide the appropriate conditions and rich learning environment for the students to complete his/her task. To inform the teachers if there is any problem regarding homework. Take a positive and active interest in children s work at home rather than just insisting that it is done.

8 What is the role of the students? To put in the same level of efforts as would be expected in class work. To hand the homework on time. To make sure to understand the task that has been given. To inform the class teachers of any difficulties. All children are expected to complete homework set. Any incomplete homework will be done in school during break under supervision. Time spent on homework: In general we anticipate that students will spend a daily maximum of 20 minutes.
