College Registrar s Office STUDENT S PRE-REGISTRATION BOOKLET Important Notices: MAY As soon as you enroll, please set up a payment plan with Student Financial Services. 2. If you wait till September to register, you may find full classes and long lines. 3. If you choose or change classes late (e.g. for Term 2), you may be charged add/drop fees and experience trouble or delays getting textbooks. 4. You need to be on campus August 29 to check in and complete arrival procedures. 5. Dorm students: You may return early only if you are in a program/course which requires an early start date or you get approval from your DSD. If you return without approval, you will not be permitted to stay in dorms or get a swipe card or meal card before the scheduled arrival date for returning students (Aug. 29). Course Scheduling Steps Waitlisting and Auditing Reminders & Special Instructions Alternating-year courses Prerequisites Courses with Additional Fees AS Electives NT/OT/TH Electives 2BTABLE OF CONTENTS If you need help at any point, please get in touch with us: , HUregistrar@prairie.eduUH, HUCheryl.mclim@prairie.eduU H, HUdouglas.lewis@prairie.eduUH, Maxwell Centre 2 nd floor. Reminder: Student Portal sessions log out after 20 minutes of inactivity.

2 COURSE SCHEDULING STEPS 1. Log in to the Student Portal (Uhttps://student.prairie.eduUH). Forget your User ID or Password? Ask us. 2. Click on grades, Degree Audits (DA). 3. Click on Details of requirements. 4. Check your DA. Right program? Does it show all substitutions, exemptions, &c.? Are all the courses where you think they should be? (Please tell us about any problems or discrepancies.) For different views of your DA Detail, click on the dropdown menus at the left of the DA screen. For instructions on reading DA s, see link on Home page. Seniors: If your DA requires a course we re not offering, please get in touch with us.

3 5. To choose classes, see What Should I Take? ( For a timetable, see link on Home page. For credit loads, see the Credits & Scheduling in the Calendar document. To make sure you have the prerequisites for your classes, check the lists below. Please consult your advisor or our office if you have any questions about program requirements, courses to take, &c. See link on Home page for a blank schedule you can lay courses out on. 6. Check the Reminders and Special Instructions section in this document (below). 7. Click on Registration, Enroll in classes. If this option doesn t appear, get in touch with us. 8. Choose the Academic Year (= Semester). Click on Edit Registration.

4 9. Enter a course ID (CM 354, for example, not CM 354-1), and click twice on the dropdown menu for Class. (Error message? Click on the binoculars and search see below.) Using the dropdown menu, click on the line with the right section. 10. Click on New and repeat the process for all classes in that Academic Year. To search for a class, click on the binoculars. Choose the right School. You can search by Course ID or Course name (ignore Department). You may also search by Year to find all courses open to students in that year, or by Course Type for example, if your DA says that you need a TH >= 200 to fulfil a requirement, you can select that Type. Click Search, then click on the Course ID that comes up to add it to your schedule. You still need to choose a Section number under Class. 11. To drop a class, click on the box to the left of the Course ID, then click Delete. Since Student Portal logs out after 20 minutes of inactivity, and simply adding courses to the list may not count as activity, go through the next three steps frequently. If you run into problems, submit the courses you have and log on again later to add more courses.

5 12. Click on Calculate Conflicts to check for time conflicts. 13. Click on Potential Schedule and double-check your schedule. 14. Click on Submit to enter and save your schedule. 15. Check the Exceptions column. Anything showing in it tells you that you didn t get into that class and explains why. Consult your advisor or our office if you have questions. 16. Note your Total Credits for the Semester. Is it right for you? Are you keeping up with your program? Remember that you need permission to take more than 19.5 credits. 17. Repeat the process for other semesters, then check your DA again to make sure your classes fit into your program. 18. Log out. 19. Choose a payment plan with Student Financial Services (SFS). 20. To make changes, log in and repeat steps above. Always notify SFS of any changes.

6 WAITLISTING AND AUDITING 1. If you try to enroll in a class that is full, the system will put you on the Waitlist. 2. If you don t want the class, click Edit Waitlists. Using the dropdown menu, change your status to Dropped from waitlist. Click Submit. 3. You will be returned to the Registration page. 4. You can t choose audit status for a course.
