Check the primary area addressed by the goal: Engagement Learning X Relationships Rationale (Reference data sources that substantiate the need for this goal.): District data indicates that student suspension and mobility rates at Black Hawk are higher than district and state averages. Through focus groups and surveys it was found that former students, current students, and staff members reported disruptions to instruction, harassment and teasing, and issues around respect. Objective 1.1 (The objectives listed for this goal, when considered together, should address all students and all staff.): will refine the Black Hawk Middle School School-Wide Positive Behavior Plan to teach, affirm, and respond to student behaviors. Measurement Strategies for Objective 1.1: District suspension and mobility data, referral data, Climate Survey, Quarterly grades, WKCE results, teacher observations, and student surveys. Check the primary area addressed by the goal: X Engagement Learning Relationships Rationale (Reference data sources that substantiate the need for this goal.): Information gathering through being a SIP Year One school produced data Data shows that BHMS has a higher number of low income students, mobile students, and suspensions than the district averages in these categories. Students with one or more suspensions at Black Hawk were at 27.9% compared to the district average of 12.5%. The Friendly Observer Report, student surveys, and staff surveys highlighted a need for alternative programs for high needs students. Objective 3.1 (The objectives listed for this goal, when considered together, should address all students and all staff.): Middle school students who do not meet school standards for attendance and behavior will demonstrate improvement by the end of the school year.
