Bible 4th Grade News: Dec. 11- Dec. 19 As we get closer to Christmas break, the students will be focusing on our great gift from God. We will take a memory verse quiz on Friday, 12/15 using a verse from Isaiah 9:6, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." The students will reflect upon what this verse means to them and how it makes them feel. The students are now finished with Unit 3 and will begin practicing for Speech Meet. In order for students to be ready with their selections in February, they will need to make their selections before Christmas break. Please check your and have students' choices ready on December 15. I will provide them with further preparation over break. This will take the place of their Bible grades, so having the selection on time is very important. We will continue focusing on Christmas and the birth of Jesus. We are discussing hope, peace, joy, and love as we learn about Advent and awaiting Jesus' return. The memory verse is Isaiah 9:6, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. And the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. The memory test will be Friday, Dec. 15. On Monday, Dec. 18, we will do an application test. PLEASE CHECK YOUR FOR INFORMATION ABOUT SPEECH MEET! I will need student selections NO LATER THAN DEC. 15 in order to ensure students have what they need to prepare over Christmas break. Check your child's folder for a form to complete and return to school with his/her selection. This will be part of their Bible grade during January and February. Thank you so much! posted in Google Classroom in case students lose the paper copy. We also will be finishing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. To celebrate, we are watching the movie version of the story during our Christmas party on Dec. 19. If you have any concerns about the movie, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you! There will be no assigned homework over Christmas break. There will be an optional fun reading activity that students may return for extra credit. I am challenging students to continue reading over the break! I will be sending home your child's progress towards their reading goal for the year, too! We have begun division! Students have notes for vocabulary and basic rules with division. We have worked with missing numbers and patterns. We will also be working with one digit quotients and remainders. We will continue our division with 1,2 & 3 digit quotients with remainders. We will also work with divisibility rules. Expect a quiz this week!your child must know their multiplication facts! Please work with your student on these. Moby Max is a great resource for students to practice as well. There will be a test next Friday, December 15th over chapter 4. A study guide will be sent home on Wednesday. The test will cover multiplication properties and models as well as multiplying by one-digit and two-digit mulltipliers. It will also include rounding and comparing numbers from previous chapters. I highly encourage you to be practing problems like the following with your child over the weekend: 92 x 56 and 64 x 39. I will be introducing the following types of problems on Monday: 841 x 56 and 402 x 31. I am asking your child to continue to spend 15 minutes each night during the week from now till January 1st practicing their multiplication facts on Moby Max under "fact fluency". (PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRACTICE YOUR FACTS DURING CHRISTMAS BREAK!!) They may choose to use flashcards instead if they desire. Please sign your child's agenda so that I know they have completed this assignment. It is crucial that they master these facts!! When we return from Christmas break, we will begin division.
Science Social Studies We will begin Chapter 4 and students should have Chapter 4, Lesson 1 comprehension sheet in their black folders on Friday, December 15th. The students are completing their studies on key events of the Revolutionary War, and they will likely take an assessment on Thursday, Dec. 14. This will include details of events placed in the correct order, as well as an understanding of why the war occurred. The students will use constructed timelines to order events. 4th Grade News and Reminders: For MS. GEIGER'S CLASS: Please remember to send in the gifts for the class gift exchange by Dec. 18. Our class party will be Dec. 19. Be on the lookout for a Sign Up Genius. Also, if you could send in $5 to help provide a Christmas gift for Mrs. Wade and Mr. Vnasdale, that would be much appreciated! Thank you so much for helping to make the Christmas holiday special for both of them! MRS. HOSTETLER'S CLASS: A sign-up genius will be sent out soon for anyone willing to send in some snacks/treats and craft supplies for the Christmas party. The students have a special person to give a gift to, and we would love to bless them. If you could send $2 with your student, this would be greatly appreciated!
Science 5th Grade: Dec Dec. 19 The homework is to be written on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and turned in at the beginning of the day. The verse is: - Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. The test is scheduled for Friday, December 15th. This will be the last Bible verse test until after they finish with their speech selections. See their speech meet selection to see the last week that they are to recite their speech. The next week is when they will begin Bible verse tests. IN THE STUDENT'S FRIDAY FOLDERS, I HAVE INCLUDED THEIR SPEECH MEET SELECTION. I AM SENDING THESE HOME EARLY SO THAT STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO BEGIN LEARNING IT EARLY, IF THEY SO DESIRE. YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THERE ARE DATES MARKED ON THESE SHEETS. BEGINNING THE WEEK WE RETURN FROM CHRISTMAS BREAK, THEY WILL BE REQUIRED TO RECITE THAT PORTION TO THE CLASS. THEY WILL NEED TO KNOW THAT PARTICULAR SECTION BY THE DATE INDICATED. HOW WELL THEY KNOW THAT PORTION WILL BE THEIR BIBLE GRADE FOR THAT WEEK. (THEY WILL NOT BE WRITING THEIR BIBLE VERSES DURING THE WEEKS THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON THEIR SPEECH MEET SELECTION. THEY ALSO WILL NOT TAKE A TEST.) ON THE 8TH, THEY WILL NEED TO RECITE, BY HEART, THE FIRST AND SECOND SELECTIONS, AND SO ON. SOME HAVE 3 WEEKS TO LEARN THEIR SELECTION, AND OTHERS HAVE FOUR, DEPENDING ON THE LENGTH OF THEIR SELECTION. IF THE STUDENT WANTS TO BE A PART OF THE SPEECH MEET ON MARCH 9TH, THAT IS HELD HERE AT MANSFIELD CHRISTIAN, THEY WILL BE PART OF A JUDGING HERE IN THE CLASSROOM THE FIRST PART OF FEBRUARY WHERE THEY WILL COMPETE AGAINST THEIR CLASSMATES. THEY NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON EXPRESSION AND PRESENTATION. posted in Google Classroom in clase students lose the paper copy. We also will be finishing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. There will be no assigned homework over Christmas break. There will be an optional fun reading activity that students may return for extra credit. I am challenging students to continue reading over the break! I will be sending home your child's progress towards their reading goal for the year, too! We will now begin our computation study of adding and subtracting fractions. We will put to use the theory learned from last unit. Expect a quiz this week. There will be a quiz over next Friday, December 15th. It will cover prime and composite numbers, factor trees, greatest common factors (GCF), and equivalent fractions. The week we return from Christmas, we will be studying fractions in lowest and greatest terms. I am asking that each student spend 15 minutes each night during the week and during Christmas break practicing their multiplication facts on Moby Max under "fact fluency". They may choose to use flashcards instead if they desire. Please sign your child's agenda so that I know they have completed this assignment. It is crucial that they master these facts!! Students should have their notes for the Chapter 3 Test that is scheduled for Friday, December 15th. We will also begin our space unit.
Social Studies The students have gathered information about the Incas and Mayas, and they have spent the weekend comparing/contrasting them. Next week, we will take two assessments to show their knowledge of what information pairs with which civilization. Then, they will use these assessments to write a short essay in order to articulate their understanding of the civilizations. The students will begin their essays on Thursday and continue into Friday.
Science Social Studies 6th Grade: Dec Dec. 19 In Bible, we are comparing the prophecies concerning Christ's birth and how they were revealed. We will also see the compatibility of the gospels with Jesus' birth. Memory for this week is Isiah 9: 6 & 7. posted in Google Classroom in clase students lose the paper copy. GENIUS HOUR: Students have one more Thursday to work on projects during class. Presentations will be the week we return from Christmas break. On Thursday students will sign up for a time slot to share their projects. We will begin our fraction theory review this week. This includes divisibility, prime and composite numbers, prime factorization and equivalent fractions. This will lead us to review our computation of fractions. There will be a test over Chapter 4 on Wednesday. It will cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division equations as well as oder of operations. They will need to study their notes! It will also include adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with decimals. I highly encouraging your child to spend 15 minutes each night during the week practicing their multiplication facts under "fact fluency" on Moby Max. During the Christmas break, I would like them to spend a total of 2 hours on Moby Max under "math". This will help prepare them for the AIR test. After Christmas, we will be studying integers. The students took notes for the Chapter 9 test on Friday, December 8th. The test is scheduled for Friday, December 15th. Several students took advantage of the program schedule this past week to create a lesson to teach to their peers. As we continue through the chapter, the students will take notes and create meaningful questions to gather information about ancienct civilizations. The students will be encouraged to develop their own strategies to display how they will show their new knowledge. On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the 6th grade students are hosting a Christmas party for the kindergarteners. Students will pair up with a student or two, and lead them in activities. The students will do a craft, read a story, decorate (and eat) a cookie, and play some games. Students signed up for various items - cookies, icing, sprinkles. Please send them in on Monday, Dec. 11. Students also need to bring a short Christmas story to read to a kindergartener. We also welcome a small gifts for our games. Also the 6th graders have decided to do a secret snowman activity in the class. They are to use the last 7 days of the year to write encouraging notes, bring small gifts, or buy with their Hagan bucks to give to their secret person. On Tuesday, Dec. 12, students will reveal who they have and give a small gift (under $10.) They have also decided on a white elephant gift exchange that day. Check with your child about these details. (To be decided on Friday!) Have a wonderful and Christ filled Christmas!!
