There will be a $25 fee for returned checks. There is a 3.75% fee charged to parents using a credit card. This fee is not collected by the Summer Symposium, it is a fee charged by the service provider. A registration form must be submitted in addition to the online payment. No Refunds will be given, unless a class is cancelled due to low enrollment. 2 Credit Courses (8:00am 1:15pm) Honors Health Students learn factual health information in the following content areas: mental and emotional health; alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; personal and consumer health; family life and human sexuality; safety and injury prevention; and disease prevention and control. Students develop lifelong health skills such as accessing information, advocacy, analyzing influences, communication skills, conflict resolution, decision making, goal setting, practicing healthful behaviors, refusal skills and stress management throughout the course. Although this course is required for graduation, parental permission must be specifically provided for students under the age of 18 to participate in the family life and human sexuality and disease prevention and control units. Session 1: June 26 th July 14 th Cost: $300 Session 2: July 17 th August 4 th Cost: $300 Algebra 1B Algebra 1 is designed to analyze and model real-world phenomena. Exploration of linear, exponential, and quadratic functions forms the foundation of the course. Key characteristics and representations of functions--graphic, numeric, symbolic, and verbal--are analyzed and compared. Students develop fluency in solving equations and inequalities. One- and two-variable data sets are interpreted using mathematical models Session 1: June 26 th July 14 th Cost: $300 Geometry B Geometry is studied as a mathematical system through the deductive development of relationships in the plane and space. Students formalize their understanding of geometric concepts, including circle chords, secants and tangent segments, parallel and perpendicular lines, angle and side measures in polygons, proofs, logic, transformations, the Pythagorean Theorem, constructions, coordinate geometry, and surface area and volume of solids. Session 1: June 26 th July 14 th Cost: $300 **Honors Geometry A/B Geometry formalizes and extends students' geometric experiences from the elementary and middle school grades. Students explore more complex geometric situations and deepen their understanding of geometric relationships, progressing toward formal mathematical arguments. Instruction at this level will focus on the understanding and application of congruence as a basis for developing formal proofs; the relationships among similarity, trigonometry and triangles; the relationships between two- and threedimensional objects and their measurements; exploration of geometric descriptions and equations for conic sections; and application of geometric concepts in modeling situations. Honors Geometry A: June 26 th July 14 th Cost: $300 Honors Geometry B: July 17 th August 4 th Cost: $300 ** The Honors Geometry Credit class is offered to: 1. Students taking for the first time must register for both A and B 2. Students taking for Mark Exclusion may register for one or both.

3 Mathematics Preparation Classes The purpose of the math prep courses is to review and enhance the prerequisite skills that students need in order to be successful in mastering the concepts of the math class they will be taking next year. In addition, students will explore some of the beginning concepts of the course. We believe that participation in this summer prep session would be beneficial for any student enrolled in one of these math courses for next year. Preparation courses will be offered for the following courses: Two Week Courses: Cost: $240 Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Honors Algebra 2 Geometry, Honors Geometry Session 2: July 24 th August 4 th One Week Courses: Cost: $130 Pre-calculus Honors Pre-calculus SAT/ACT PREPARATION This course is for students preparing to take the SAT 1 or the ACT in the fall. Students will be taught test-taking strategies for both the SAT 1 and the ACT as well as completing practice tests. SAT I/ACT MATHEMATICS July 10 th July 21 st COST $290 SAT I/ACT VERBAL July 24th August 4 th Includes book fee (Estimated cost of 2 prep books not to exceed $60.00) MTS Grade 10 Independent Project Preparation This online course will provide students with the necessary background to complete the required MTS Signature Program Independent Project in grade 10. Students will enroll in Google Classroom to receive instruction to increase their knowledge of the scientific method, develop a Request for Permission, and review professional media about their area of focus. There will be self-paced modules with instructional information followed by a learning activity that will be submitted for feedback on understanding. 4 English COLLEGE ESSAY WRITING WORKSHOP Cost: $130 In the College Essay Workshop, students will: become familiar with the college essay; develop an understanding of what colleges are looking for in an essay; turn real-life experiences into an essay that will make you stand out from the other applicants; and draft an essay that can be edited to fit any prompt. (For Seniors only) Writing Workshop Cost: $130 The purpose of this course is to help ease the anxiety of writing. Skills taught will include planning, developing thesis statements, organizing, drafting, editing, and revising responses to essay questions, short stories, poetry and film, as well as an introduction to the research process. Session 3: July 24 th July 28 th Session 4: July 31 st Aug. 4 th STUDY STRATEGIES Cost: $130 The purpose of this course is to teach students strategies that will help achieve success in any high school course. Students will learn tools that include goal setting, time management, learning styles, memorization strategies and test-taking strategies. Science HONORS CHEMISTRY PREP Cost: $240 Designed for students who wish to develop their problem solving skills utilized in the main topics of Honors Chemistry. The class will focus on introducing some of the more challenging topics of Honors Chemistry in a low stress environment. Session 2: July 24 th August 4 th Cost: $240 Social Studies AP US History Prep Cost: $130 Target audience for this course would be incoming 9th graders enrolled in APUSH. It will jump start students on content and hone study skills and essay writing that will allow them to be more efficient and successful in dealing with rigorous material. AP NSL Prep Cost: $130 Target audience for this course would be rising 10th graders enrolled in AP NSL. The course will particularly focus on essay writing. Contemporary Drawing COST $255 (materials fee included) Each day delve into a new drawing style: portraits, figures, geometric still-life, organic still-life, mixed media, printmaking, and more. Learn new techniques or refine your technique to add exciting works to your portfolio.
